featured_spectre Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Our bosses in their infinite wisdom decided to make our ICT suite wireless - using ruckus. We are now paying the cost in that our log in times are sluggish, and often not picking ip the profile properly, imaging takes ages and speed drops on the internet are huge via wireless when the class is logged on! Would there be a supplier on here that would do a survey and give me a quote on the cost to get the suite wired up (CAT5e or CAT6). I would like to book surveys for ASAP so we can get under way in the new financial year.

featured_spectre Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 no, the ruckus is fantastic, does the job nicely, but when you consider 30 machines (plus 190 laptops) connected on the wireless all pulling down a 3mb profile, is not good for connectivity. Sadly our bosses here once again decided they know better, and didnt listen to me, and I can almost guarantee that when I tell them again it needs wiring, I will be the one to get it in the neck saying why didnt I mention it sooner?

localzuk Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Speak to CSE (CSE - ICT for schools). They do all our cabling, and they're always very well priced and do a good job. They don't charge for doing a quote either! (That's insane!) On the Ruckus side - how many AP's do you have that lot connecting through? Also, are they using 802.11n?

featured_spectre Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 10 APs darted around the site, we get complete coverage with the APs with a few overlaps so some go to 1 AP, some go to another. 802.11G APs (2932 I believe the model is). And they are all plugged into gigabit switches yes. However with old Cat5e cabling serving as the infrastructure in this place, its sketchy at best as to the speed they APs get.
