I bet Google knows how many Android tablets are actively in use by end users and can break that data down by make and model too.

Tunster Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 When apple were just about to release the ipad they removed the camera, not for any technical reason as it was the same as the one used on the i-phone but from a lets make some cash stance and add it to v2. If your happy with that working practice then buy apple. Why make up a conspiracy theory? That's hole is for the light sensor. It's not even big enough to house a camera CCD. No company designs things and then removes parts at the last minute. It would cost them more to modify a production line at the last minute. The original iPad was designed to test the market, so I guess the thought of a camera wasn't necessary until Apple saw the product was successful and FaceTime was becoming popular.

vikpaw Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Oh yeah, @mattx - somebody's post reminded me: dropbox is a good way to exchange files (see my sig if you're not a user), i think the local storage is limited to 1GB, compared to the upto 8GB on a desktop. Plus, i often just email myself files in or out. You then have options to save to local. I'm just talking from iPhone experience, but there shouldn't be a difference.

The deals on the current ipads really aren't too bad when compared to the cost of buying one outright plus you get the 3G connection as part of the package too, and paying £25ish a month to have the use of one doesn't seem so bad compared to forking out £600 in one go either.

Pete10141748 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Agreed that it costs more to get on contract (by above calculations it works out to just under £4 a month more over 24 months) and the luxury to walk away from the 3G as it's not a 'contract' is a good thing, but at this point in time it's far easier for me to add £25 to my direct-debits each month and pay that extra £90 over the 2 years than it is to find that £429 in one go; on my wages by the time I save up £429 for it the ipad3 will have come along! lol I wonder if my bank will just let me skip my mortgage payment this month.......

I did the same as option 1 with an iPhone 4, worked out allot better that way.

Put sim in mobile phone, text 6MONTHWEB to 441... put sim in iPad (after chopping down to size)... et voila. 1Gb 3G access per month for 6 months. After 6 months take out of ipad, put in phone again (assuming one had intelligence to keep what one chopped off to make it back up to a standard sim), topup £20, repeat. I do the same with my iPhone3G, but then also stick £5 per month on for which I get unltd texts. I never make voice calls. That means £140 per year covers unltd texts and net access on both devices for 12 months. So, taking the quote above for an iPad 3G 16Gb from apple at £429, add £40 just for iPad net access for the year, gives you £469 total. I hate contracts... especially when PAYG is cheaper.
