HarryMonkey Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I'd rather they knocked off £300 off my order of laptops than send me a PS3, tickets to football games or other tacky stuff that I don't need, and according to most LEA rules now am not allowed to accept personally. I don't think that's a LA rule. I think you'll find it's the law ... the school placed the order and paid for the goods, therefore any gratuities are the property of the school. Things such as games consoles, footy tickets and such like should be given to the PFA to raise funds or can be sold off and the money returned to school funds. We once recieved a huge radio controlled car as a thank you for an order. Unfortunately the company concerned included it on an invoice (at £0.00). When the auditors checked the invices, they demanded to know where the car was and insisted that it be given over to the SLT to be used as a fund raiser.
soveryapt Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Down here in the south, all the first, infant and primary schools I have ever worked in or my children attended all have 'Golden Time' which is run on a Friday afternoon - so you Northerners are running a bit behind! Not all Northerners .. a Primary I used to work at and my daughters primary school both run Golden time on the Friday afternoon for good behaviour .. though that is only 2 out of how many thousand primaries in the north? lol ..

Just like our trains lol However, the concensus here seems to be that random free stuff just doesn't actually happen. Maybe we should press the matter futher and find out where it is coming from.

"Sorry, it's been reclassified as the 'remotely-operated enclosed-environment pull-rope deployment device', we've even stuck a wireless ip cam with IR leds on the front. It's mission-critical network repair equipment now, I'm afraid." (Yes, I have considered building this for the more bizarre cable runs).
Sylv3r Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 We get the odd freebie (not really free) from a Deputy Head through credits accrued through our teaching supply agency. We accumulate points to purchase from a magazine at the end of each school year - we've had projectors, camcorders, digital cameras etc from them in the past.
