Paul_L Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Got called to one of my schools yesterday, with the report that water was dripping from one of the class projectors!! And yes indeed water was dripping from one of the class projectors! With no other evidence of water on the ceiling or anywhere else around the projector. So where was the water coming from? The projector is roof mounted (yes roof not ceiling) the pole (a rather long pole) goes through the ceiling and is mounted to the rafters. Anyone known where the water is coming from? PS. I know the answer! just seeing if anyone else can work it out!

tech_guy Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'd say either condensation on the pole or a leak in the roof has followed the route of least resistance. If the pole is hollow they haven't got it actually sticking out of the roof have they? Instant drainpipe!

Speaking as a man that experienced "ceiling wee" in the last building, I can commiserate.. (Ceiling wee: Sat there with my cuppa, went to drink it, noticed the cup was full. I'd drunk half a cup not 10 minutes previous. Looked up, yellow stain on the roof, and as we watched there was another stream, right into the cup. Loos above the office, bad sealing, and GIRLS who can't use the damn loos and pee on the floor. Had 3 total ceiling collapses in that office due to soil stack leakage, and 2 monitors that were filled with pee over a holiday. Don't miss that office.)
jdoyle Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 a. someone left the lid off the classroom fish tank and the goldfish were playing "who can squirt the furthest" overnight using the projector as their target...... b. the pole on which the projector has been fitted is an overflow pipe that's been re-purposed whilst still retaining it's original function. c. the cleaner gave it a quick once over with a mop cos it looked a bit dusty. d. condensation running down the pipe which actually runs through onto the roof where it also supports the school weather station. e. escaped classroom gerbil gone pee pee. f. in a previous life the projector was a water butt. the screws/bolts attaching the pole to the roof allow water to leak down the pole? 1

elsiegee40 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I have successfully dried out a Sanyo projector after a burst pipe caused a torrent of water to flow through it. Everything disconnected and a fortnight in my airing cupboard at home. It's still working with the same bulb 2 years later!
Hightower Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm going to try and put two and two together here. Projector = classroom, but possibly computer room. Computer room = air conditioning, so my guess is something to do with the AC unit. What, I don't know as I don't know what comprises an AC unit. All I know about them is that they keep you cool.

SteveBentley Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 We had a flood in a room (courtesy of some cowboy plumbing on the floor above) and the water found the projector pole to be a convenient path to follow. Left the projector to dry out for weeks and (after testing by a sparky) it's back in use.
