I remeber a Windows 98 upgrade which you could install from scratch simply by inserting a Win 95 disk at one part of the install.

I wonder, can this trick be amended to create a dual boot system? i.e. on a partitioned drive where XP already exists. Presumably Vista will find the XP partition so any way around it?

Very clever marketing by MS (unless you think that in the most locked down product to hit the shelves since dongles were in fashion, someone "overlooked" this feature.)

Then partition the drive - install Vista and then XP - should be fairly easy

radicalise, write your own os and attempt world domination, or you could just buy a pc/laptop with vista installed (yes it is half term so i am taking a little step back!)

I've seen reference to an academic upgrade to Vista (home premium) following the spirit of the XP Pro upgrade they used to sell (for students, teachers, pupils etc).

 

Suppliers with stock seem few and far between - the phrase rarer than hen's teeth springs to mind. Anyone know a supplier that has the academic upgrade in stock? Ebuyer has listed it but never seems to have any stock in. Dabs deleted it from their stock list before it was released.

I don't know about the education one, but the Ramesys site for the BCS discounted software doesn't have Vista or Office 2007 on it yet in any guise. Very annoying, and they don't seem to want to reply to enquiries about it either. Not good.

Oh we can get back on can we as BCS members? Last time I tried it rejected me but I didn't follow it up at the time.

Just to point out, that if u r "upgrading", then you cant have the other OS installed [AFAIK] - but two OEM and/or retail copies of course are fine to dual boot with.
