CHR1S Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I'm fed up of my huge amount of messy cables at home and I need a solution! I have 10 plugs in 3 multi sockets, meters of CAT5, speaker cable, satellite cable, 6 HDMI cables etc etc etc just for my home cinema kit. How can I tidy them up AND make it safer?
featured_spectre Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 cable ties and trunking are your friends...as for the multi sockets, get a friend who is a sparky to add a spur of sockets in...did that at home, I got like 12 sockets on my wall to fit everything!

Tricky_Dicky Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Buy 1 good and large multi way adaptor for the plugs and then screw it to the back of your AV rack, once in place you can shorten each power lead down by cutting off the original plug (as it's probably a molded one) and then putting new plugs on at the correct length. Then do the same with the Cat5 and speakers, just position each bit of kit and get the cables to just the right length. Think of it like redesigning the server cabinet and spend a good weekend doing it. 1

MK-2 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/4711/sri0417.jpg the problem with those (as with many extensions, etc) are that not all plugs are the standard moulded size. for instance the xbox kinect has a larger plug, the router at home has a large block plug, some are bulkier at the top than at the bottom, so you end up with one plug dominating two spaces.

nsherin Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 D-Line trunking is pretty handy - I use some round my bay window, as the TV /phone socket are behind the sofa - the other side of the room from where the AV kit is. I run a CAT 5e from my router, the cable runs for the rear speakers in my AV swtup plus the TV aerial cable. Running off the double socket on the other side of the room is a nightmare though - with several daisy chained extensions. I'm currently running: Subwoofer PS3 32" LG LCD TV DVD recorder DAB/FM tuner DVD player (for multi-region, DVD-Audio and SACD) AV receiver Stereo amp (for music) CD recorder MiniDisc deck Turntable Plasma ball Gigabit switch Mac Mini PC 22" Samsung monitor PSU for S-ATA docking station PSU for USB hub Desk lamp 1TB Linkstation NAS The cabling is a rats nest. Hoping to sort it out properly once my landlord redecorates my living room after a water leak from the roof.
