Help us get this right first time....

We have a large atrium space in one of our newest buildings, the SMT wish to make the best use of this space possible and are looking at getting some desks in there, they also want some PCs/laptops in there or whatever works best.

 

This is the setup

 

Large space, round desks preferred

We have floor boxes with power and network points if needed

There is an aruba wireless AP right next to the space

We're not looking to break the bank

18-24 PCs/laptops required

Most importantly: needs to be easily moved away if the space is needed for other things!

 

Laptops with docking stations screwed to fold up desks is the current idea, but im curious to see if any of you can come up with anything better and easier to manage?

Possibly something perm using something like the I-desk they had them at Bett last year and looked quite cool - although not sure on how well they function in real life. You can then mount the pc's etc built into the desk with them auto hiding. Edited December 13, 2010 by glennda

Just want some of the small form factor Dell's or Viglin type units with the monitor stand and PC on back. That way not much desk space is used and its all tidy.

We're using some novatech SFF PCs attached to the back of monitors in our library at the moment, they do the job and it was one of the possibilities we have on our list

Maybe a chance to make the entrance into thin client technology?

We are getting a similar setup to what you are describing in our Library using Kaviza VDI. Thin clients are tiny and sit on the back on the monitors – easy to move around if needed in the future and keeps the whole place clean and tidy. If your SMT are intrusted in it you could label it a ‘Green IT Investment’.

I-Desk nice ideas, great MD of the Firm, Steve is a great guy very open to discussions about his product and where it could be improve, but very costly.

 

How about Isis concepts furniture instead? You could have PCs in them and then shut them down and lock them away leaving the banks of tables and if you used small enough PCs or Thin Clients and put them inside no-one would even know what they were

I-Desk are great, there good for classrooms, although what do you mean by saying you need to clear the room fast, if you are id go for laptops with I-Desks a bit hard to move unless you do need the desks there for the classroom space.
