The strangest thing you've eaten

The most revolting that I've tried has to be fermented shark in Iceland (country not the supermarket)... I was served with three 3 cubes the size of sugar lumps and it smelled and tasted disgusting - I only ate the tiniest bit of one cube!

 

I'm willing to try most things: ostrich, crocodile, kangaroo, kudu, impala, frogs legs, snails, raw shellfish, offal of all types... have all been enjoyed!

Barracuda in the Dominican republic.......Little did i know that the meat of this fish is quite toxic.It feeds on algae called ciguetera that live on coral reef. I spent 2 days in the room with blurred vision and numb, errrrrrm, appendages shall we say. Great holiday though!

Had a fillet of shark from a fish and chip shop in Oz and blue grenadier ( another fish ) same fish and chip shop - wouldn't say they were weird, really enjoyed eating those. Wish I could have more of that

 

Also Octopus and Calamari rings ( squid rings deep fried ) - yummy

Probably not the strangest thing I've ever eaten but the dumbest thing I've ever eaten / done back in the late eighties was when I spent a year traveling around the world and it was to ingest the secretions that contain bufotenin that are found in certain amphibians....the guy who put me up to it (we were both amazingly drunk at the time) is now a very prominent and respected lawyer in the City of London. I always say im willing to try something atleast once but i think of anything.. how about turtle, turtle eggs, flying fox (bat)..

Was in China a few years ago...I have eaten the following (bare in mind I was only told when I got back to the UK what I had eaten)

 

Snake

Fire ant larvae

Pigs Uterus

Ox testicles

Goats tongue

Lizard

Porcupine

Pigs cheeks

Snails

Sea Urchin

Puffer fish

Rat

Horse

and finally Saego (Part of a tree that looks like wall paper paste but is actually quite nice).

 

I was surprised to find how tasty it all was...

Oddly enough, I won't eat a doner kebab, as when I was at university, I saw deliveries to a few kebab shops on the same road as my digs, and new enough each spit of kebab came in bags that said "incinerate only" on them, from that moment on I have never touched a doner since. Chicken Kebabs and Lamb Kofte's...different story!

Hmm that is pretty disturbing, also its not quality food is it but that still doesnt stop me from having one sometimes.

On the real food front, I ate all sorts at a Cajun resteraunt in texas. Snake, squid, crayfish... I'll eat almost anything now, but not tried brains. Don't think I want to either.

Al I've tried is an ostrich burger and I liked it, healthy too. Oh, and sushi but these days that's not so weird.

Strangest thing I've ever eaten, when I was in Singapore, some "friends" (lol) made me try a durian fruit ..

 

for those who don't know what it is, the second result down in Google.co.uk when you search for durian fruit states "Durian Fruit can best be described as having a succulent, creamy filling but smelling like stinky socks" what it doesn't say is that the smell is that over powering, it kind of tastes as it smells! lurvley!

Bah... though I go to Kenya regularly I have never eaten "bushmeat" (zebra/impala/kudu etc.) as it has been illegal there for some time. Think even croc is illegal - though farmed ostrich is available it's ~40 quid/kilo. Stick to mbuzi choma I think (roast goat).
