Tea or Dinner? Dinner or Lunch?

Dinner then tea, dinner sometimes gets called lunch but vary rarely.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner. A forces thing...

 

A forces thing? I was in the forces and I don't ever recall my basic training including the subject of meal titles.

 

Here's how the words get used in my house!

 

Middle of day: Lunch (if a light meal), Dinner (if a main meal)

 

Evening: Dinner (if a main meal), Tea (if a light meal)

 

In the run up to bedtime: Supper (but I don't snack late often)

 

So if you have 2 main meals you call them both dinner? So you have 2 dinners? Greedy girl

Its definately a north/south divide on the dinner issue - as can be witnessed on this thread and looking at posters locations. Down here, if anyone mentions dinner it is always assumed to be the evening meal. If someone referred to lunch as dinner it would sound pretty unusual

I'm from Sunderland and it's breakfast, dinner (mid-day meal) and then tea (evening meal) anything else between these is a snack. Everyone else is wrong. Lol.

 

And for reference, it is MAM!! Yet again anything else is wrong.

Well, old chap, here it's tiffin around 12 noon-1pm, with high tea at approximately 3:30pm. Evening meal around 6-7pm, followed by gin slings.
