Let's get back on topic...

What exactly does this offer users anyway? I read it as combining EMail, IM and Chat. That smells funnily like what Pidgin has done for years and even Ubuntu 10.10 has attempted this with IRC, Multiple IM networks, Facebook, Twitter and E-Mail all combined into one small icon tray.

My son has an app on his iPod touch (IM Lite, I think) that does this

MSN Messenger sort of does this now with social feeds, Tweetdeck combines feeds (as well as many other apps) into one place. This is all hardly new.

the way this thread is going reminds me of a letter we received from a guy in america. basically the IT teachers were teaching about hoax and fake websites and using page about a man who creates foil helmets to stop the aliens reading your mind. he sent us a letter and proof of his findings and even a sample of the material to prove he wasn't a nut job. we had to take it seriously as a complaint!

Thanks to whoever neg-rep'd me for having an opinion, very brave of you! However as whoever it was has no rep, it hasn't affected my own reputation. So bite me :p and by the way, I don't own a "Living in a Dream World", or did you mean "you're" rather than "your"?

On topic: I'm sure facebook email will be extremely popular, right up until the first story comes out that all your emails are vetted for 'targeted advertising'. And I'm almost certain they will be, so I won't be using it.

LosOjos: In a part of the video of the launch I watched, they said that wouldn't be the case. They already have enough information on our likes and dislikes to target advertising anyway...

Haven't looked at any official announcement to be fair. Still, I won't use it myself just to be on the safe side, plus as others have said you're highly unlikely to be able to access your email in school if it's part of facebook
