VISTA and antivirus

Which antivirus are you using for vista 32 bit, the enterprise edition of norton provided by our lea is not compatible. please help

Surprised you say that about Sophos, I've had no probs with it at all, it runs like a dream. I've had no probs either in education or out in Industry. Norton is another matter though.

Sophos standalone doesn't work on Vista yet, but the enterprise console does have Vista for an option

I'm not a fan of Sophos either, they have improved the latest one, but when it did a definition update for example this big window would pop up and the machine would grind to a halt, totally unacceptable. Now the later one does not have the box, but still goes dead slow when updating.

I have tested AVG Free with vista - didn't seem to have any problems.

Sophos here - no problems on the machines we have tested, installed automatically via GPO as soon as the machine hit the domain with no tweaking required on the enterprise console at all.

 

The only problem we have had with Sophos in nearly seven years of using it properly was caused by a corrput copy of the install CD last year when the LEA upgraded us last year.

 

The latest version (6.5) seems the best yet in terms of resource appetite.

We use NOD32 on vista and xp here. Straight away it picked up some stuff which our Nortons hadnt found, some of it which had been loitering there for over 6 months

Vista doesn't really need an anti virus product as it's the most secure operating system ever invented!

And anyway, if you do feel the need to have one why not use Microsofts own Onecare Product, it's wonderful and all you will ever need....

Of course I use AVG on my own machines, it's quick and lite but I still haven't been able to get the AVG Antispyware product to work properly with Vista yet which ran fine under xp.

AVG runs great but you do need to install fresh from the LATEST installation file available from AVG website - I had a old build on my NAS which I thought would update to the latest build but it didn't and led to problems.

Would love to get rid of symantec corp, but its bought by our LEA and is pretty cheap.

 

Just wish they had a proper downloadable update site, having to call the LEA or symantec to get a simple install disk for each point release is ridiculous. Also the fact that the software slows the machine down 25% doesn't help either, but its better than having an full scale virus outbreak(just).

 

Will be interested to see how one care turns out and its enterprise capabilities.

We used to use symantec corp on all our networks but now have bought AVG internet security for all our machines. Uses a lot less of the system resources and seems to detect a lot more problems.

 

Am using it on this pc running Vista Business with no problems so far.

I'm running Vista 64 at home and using AVG on it. No complaints so far not that its found anything since it was installed in february but we assume thats a good thing

F-Secure 7.1 beta.

 

Works perfectly, no issues or problems, of course you need to be an f-secure customer to get it, but it's an excellent piece of software.

I am using Kaspersky at home. I've heard F-Secure used their core. Dunno what the situation is now. For corporate net we are using another distributed anti-spy protection installed on the 'perimeter' servers and is running 'in front' of workstations. Not by Kaspersky. Grisoft's AV+FW is great but it doesn't support server systems. I am also using Windows Defender. It helped me with JS threats. It looks (I see it from log files on my W2k3 server Anti-Spyware) like the web-site auto-install scripts are the most popular threats now. Comparing the traffic gives the result that computers where users use the web are more virus-prone than those where users are just using e-mail. So perimeter protection coupled with desktop protection and IPSec security filtering policies do their job well.
