I went to Live8, that was incredible.

I was also at Live8. Not sure I'd use the word 'incredible' unless you are describing the crowd. You couldn't see a patch of grass in Hyde Park that day.

 

Macca's opening with U2 was good. Pete Docherty was famously interesting (as was the look on Elton's face). Richard Ashcroft and Youssou N'Dour where highlights.

 

I think it could mostly be summed up as a day of standing around waiting for Robbie and then being disappointed that we had to leave before Pink Floyd came on because of the trains

Pink Floyd - Pulse - Earl's Court - 1994 (Stunning, get the DVD if you weren't there; possibly the finest concert lighting the world had seen to that point, may still be)

Your experience sounds million miles away from mine! Velvet Revolver were incredible, Robbie Williams was (I hate to admit) really good, REM were great, Pink Floyd were astounding (and I did get to see the whole set)... Brilliant day I thought! Only part I hated was queuing for 4 hours to get in, though the gay pride parade made even that interesting lol

I don't think so. I also saw Take That in Cardiff two years ago. George Michael is a guilty listen I must admit. My wife has lurved him since she was small. His music is good and his concert was excellent. The second concert was better than the first.

 

They were all seriously good concerts - albeit a bit camp perhaps.

I can't imagine working the festivals would be as much fun as getting wrecked in a field and going on like a knob. Lol. Then again I've never tried the working bit.

 

Depends on the job you get! Show days are very long, but it's also a good laugh.

Coldplay - Reebok Arena - plus the doves supporting

Coldplay & Jay Z - Hampden Park

Angels & Airwaves - Manchester Academy with YouMeAtSix supporting

Leona Lewis - Liverpool Echo (Was the girlfriends present but thoroughly enjoyed)

McFly - SECC & Carlisle (I know what your thinking but an incredible show and a lot of fun)

Justin Timberlake - MEN Arena (Twice, the FutureSexLoveShow was absolutely incredible. He can put on one hell of a show)

 

I am off to see Paramore next week in Liverpool. I Cant wait.

Listening to U2 do a warm up of 'Vertigo' while we were queuing was cool. I'm an harden't R.E.M. fan so I was disappointed at them only doing three songs - and the wrong three at that .

Elton John....Sneaked into the posh seats at Wembley Arena!

Rage Against The Machine - Almost died on the crush barrier!

Foo Fighters - Everlong acoustic was immense

Seasick Steve - Bum with a broken guitar

Pendulum and Hadouken - Amazing

Tenacious D / Fallout boy / Lostprophets / Wheezer - All hilarious

 

In fact the only band I have been really disappointed in was Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Came on late, couldn't be bothered said bye and left.

 

Mind you have been to lots of festivals and Gigs. Will be seeing Feeder for the 4th time later this year.

Dont know whether you can call it a concert as technically it was a Rave, but this one still sends tingles up my spine everytime i think of that night. It was amazing.

120 Foot dragon breathing smoke and fire overhead, lasers drawing pictures on the clouds. Never seen anything like it before or since.

I've been to an ungodly number of gigs, festivals, etc,etc - however the single greatest live band I've seen is Meshuggah

 

A band not to everyones tastes for sure but the technicality and amazing tightness to what they play shocked the crowd each time I've seen them.

I love this as a thread, lots of concerts people have already posted that I'm insanely jealous of and would've given anything to be there for.....the original Madstock Madness being a particular one!!

 

My favourite bands/acts to see live are Richard Ashcroft/The Verve, Muse, Maximo Park and Starsailor, I think I've seen Maximo Park around 15 times now (yes I'm completely obsessed) and recently saw them at the Warehouse Project in Manchester which was the best I've ever seen them, such an amazing show so full of energy.

 

In terms of individual concerts, I remember seeing the Verve at V Festival in 2008. Ashcroft has such an insanely amazing voice, and songs like Bittersweet Symphony, History and Drugs don't work send shivers down my spine. This particular one, the entire show was performed in the pouring rain, but it was weird in that it really didn't matter to the 50,000 or so people in attendance you just didn't seem to notice it (it was also the night I met my gf, and if she asks then that was what was memorable at V Festival that year!).

 

Muse at Wembley 2008 - HAARP Tour - Amazing live band, always put on a quality show

Kasabian - Manchester Apollo - circa 2004 (I think) on one of the NME tours just before they became huge, I'd never seen a band completely dominate a venue before, you just knew they were going to be huge.

Coldplay - Manchester Apollo - circa 1999/2000 (again i think) Just before parachutes was released, I distinctly remember Chris Martin standing before us and saying that his next song was going to be the one that launched them into the big time...they promptly performed Yellow, and he was right :-)

 

In all honesty though, I don't think I've ever seen a bad concert, I just love live music :-)

In terms of band tightness the best I've ever seen are Crowded House. Neil Finn doesn't mind going off on tangents and taking requests from the audience so the set list on the night is rarely what they had planed at the start.

 

I saw them at the NEC in Birmingham, someone shouted "Rocky Raccoon Neil!", an obscure Beatles number. Neil started playing and the rest of the band quickly fell in behind him. Perfect timing, etc - as if they'd been playing the song live for the past 30 years.

 

I've got a rip of a webcast from when they reformed back in 2007. The conversation turned about Drummers and how next to the drummer is the best place to sit. It reminded Neil of a concert he'd been to in his youth and he started playing "Room To Move" by John Mayell and the Bluesbreakers. Again this band who hadn't reformed for more than a couple of months just fell in together and kept the tempo/rythum.

Placebo at the O2 Academy in Sheffield last May - it was only a few days before the album Battle For The Sun was released and not only was it the first time they'd played it to a paying audience it was a small venue and I was stood on the balcony as close to the stage as you could get. I also really enjoyed their gig in Manchester at Christmas but the Sheffield one edged it.

 

Other than that I once went to a free event for Vodafone when my wife worked for them. The acts were Sheryl Crowe, Madness, Blue and Elton John. Every single one was amazing, I never thought I would say that about Blue, but Elton actually did more encores than he had planned as during the last one he was wearing a tracksuit as he had changed ready to depart.

Led Zep for me, I saw Fleetwood Mac at Wembley in about '91 but we were so far back it just didn't do anything. Like to see them again. Ohh Stevie Nicks is gorgeous! (and about 15 years older than me)

Was at Wembley arena in 2004 to see Duran Duran being supported by Scissor Sisters....

 

Needless to say, DD blew me and my gf away, and were brilliant.

 

SS were good, but were playing to a half full house, at the time.

 

This was also the first time that we felt our baby kick! Our son was born 5 months later and has a deep appreciation of good music.....I wonder why???? LOL!!
