A bulb in one of our projectors has exploded.

Do I have to now have it serviced or replaced or can I just put a new bulb in it?

If serviced who does it and how much?

Obviously not under warranty? The reason I ask is the bulbs for the Epsons we have are a shed load of money and we recently had a new replacement Hitachi for one that came in at just over £400. Our Epsons are 7 years old!

Sanyo, dont know the model number.

Yes, there will have been mercury in the lamp, but very little, and it is now well spread around. There will be glass EVERYWHERE in it, and as others have said, it may well not be worth the effort!

Erm, it's actually mercury vapour - I'd be surprised if there's ANY of it still around.

Most Sanyo projectors being sold to education have 3/5yr de-install re-install warranties/Bulb warranties....worth checking that you're covered!

All of our bulbs that have popped in our Epson projectors (3 so far) are all way under their lamp hours... so Epson just sent new ones out to us. Their lamps contain all of the shards of glass so providing you remove it properly there is no cleaning out to be done!

Definately check bulb life!

Only when it is hot. If you look carefully at a cold lamp, you can see the beads of the stuff.

And if said bulb has popped, the mercury vapour would have escaped... Meaning, the mercury would more than likely no longer be in the bulb.

I always do bulb replacements in a well ventilated area (usually outdoors to be honest). Means I can give them a good dusting at the same time.
