Adobe have finally released the final version of Flash Player 10.1. Distribution and download information available here.

 

This update also fixes the recent vulnerability too.

That would be an Adobe redistribution license ...it feels like you have to renew every couple of weeks... I do wish they'd drop that (or better, Flash would die).

 

FWIW: For several version now, the MSI here is just a simple wrapper around what appears to be the EXE installer you get with the routine download.

I was going to mention that, but I thought everyone should know that by now or already applied for one especially given the frequency of Adobe security patches.

I can't seem to find any details about this on the Adobe website, but do you have to apply for new distribution license every year or only when Adobe release a (major) new version of Flash Player? If the latter, then surely the license you got for v10 would still be valid for v10.1 since it is only a minor upgrade?

I'm pretty sure it's been every year.. for starters they "expire" which isn't the right word for a version based licence (one would expect "not valid for this version" or something)..

Unfortunately I already have one - installing Adobe updates on 550+ PCs every few weeks.

For those using the .exe installers, the silent install/uninstall arguments have changed.

 

For a silent install, use -install with the install_flash_player_10_active_x.exe

install_flash_player_10_active_x.exe - install

 

For a silent uninstall, use -uninstall with the uninstaller, which has also been renamed:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil10h_ActiveX.exe -uninstall

Oh is that to the redistributale MSI? I thought that might just be to the general installer with toolbars etc.

No. It's the proper redistributable installer. I think the normal version (linked below) just comes as an EXE anyway.

I hate toolbars too and avoid them at all costs, although I see Adobe are bundling McAfee Security Scan Plus with 10.1 which McAfee use to foist yet more crapware upon unsuspecting users.

That sounds like trouble to me, anyone having problems in testing? I've rolled it out to a room and mymaths seems fine with it.

I think the feature that most people will be pleased to see is the hardware acceleration of H.264 video on Windows. Mac users will have to wait a bit longer for the official "Gala" edition of 10.1 which offers the same feature on Snow Leopard however.

We are currently deploying flash 10.0.45.0 through GP so how should I go about upgrading to 10.1?

 

Is it just a matter of replacing the .msi and redeploying the GP?

I just place the new msi on the share then remove the old msi from GPO then add the new one. Next time the PC boots it removes the old and installed the new. I don't 'replace' the msi and redeploy I don't think that will work.

does the uninstall command uninstall any version of flash before installing 10.1? i tested a flash uninstall utility in the past which supposedly uninstalled any version of flash with the intention of rolling out the latest version across the site after that, but it didn't seem to work. this may be the answer!

Pretty sure that uninstall command is specific to Flash 10.1, but I think if you roll out the latest it will overwrite whatever is already there without having to worry about removing the previous version.

Ok, some computers are refusing to upgrade flash. I've got a room of 30 machines and I restarted 5 of them and watched as GP pushed out the upgrade. All looked ok till I went to the flash test page Adobe - Flash Player and it still showed v10.0.45.0. I did a manual install of the .msi and it gave this error
