arthur231283 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I have been trying to get FMS to install on Windows 7 but keep getting the following error: runtime error 217 at 00025AFE I have done a search of the capita support site but could not find anything. Has anyone successful got this to work? Does anyone know if it is possible to get this to work? Thanks
3s-gtech Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Is it Windows 7 64 bit? Isn't FMS still 16 bit like NovaT4? In which case, it won't work. I wait to be corrected though!

matt40k Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) FMS is only 32bit. So is all the client bits for SIMS. FMS is 32-bit, not 16-bit" Edited May 25, 2010 by matt40k
arthur231283 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 I am running 32bit Windows 7 Enterprise. If FMS is 16bit is there a way I can run the programme in a compatibility mode so it will run? I will have another go and post any updates if I make progress
3s-gtech Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 It should work on that version of Windows 7, without compatibility mode.
Domino Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 FMS is only 32bit. So is all the client bits for SIMS. FMS is 32-bit, not 16-bit" Hmm, unless its been updated extensively in the past two years its 16-bit, certainly was the last time I dealt with it. It runs on 32bit systems but its a 16bit application, hence it not running on 64bit systems (which will run 32bit apps)
frosty Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 A mate of mine sent this to me the other day...not sure if it will help you? - it helped me. FMS on Windows 7 1. Install FMS as per usual 2. Open up command prompt 3. cd C:/Windows/SysWOW64 (or C:/Windows/system32 on x86) 4. run the following takeown /f netapi32.dll icacls netapi32.dll /grant Domain Admins:f 5. Rename the netapi32.dll in C:/Windows/SysWOW64 (or c:/windows/system32) to netapi32old.dll 6. Copy the dll’s in the folder to C:/Windows/SysWOW64 or C:/Windows/system32 7. Run FMS module 8. Choose where your INI file is. 9. You should be able to then login fine to FMS. Accept no responsibility for this document what so ever!
splattthecat Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Runtime Error 217 is usually that a default printer cannot be found. Do you have a printer set up?
matt40k Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 FMS is 32bit. It runs on 64bit, it's just not supported.
arthur231283 Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 After splattthecats suggestion Runtime Error 217 is usually that a default printer cannot be found. Do you have a printer set up? I checked that a default printer had been set and it had. The computer had more than one printer applied to it so I right clicked and set a different printer as default, I then set the original printer back to default. I opened FMS and it worked. So FMS is not accepting the default printer until it is set manually
millink Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Thanks splattthecat and arthur231283, I had the exact same error: runtime error 217 at 00025AFE when running FMS ... I followed arthur231283's advise about selecting different default printer and then reselecting original default printer - FMS now works for me too! millink
PhilNeal Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Default printer issue is fixed - I think with the summer release.
Boredguy Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Doesn't appear to be fixed on my Windows XP computer. Everytime I've a Brother HL-1680 set as default it gives me a runtime error, but as it runs happily on our Finance teams computers I can live with mine being picky
Heebeejeebee Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 FMS is 32bit. It runs on 64bit, it's just not supported. Correct. I've been using it on 64 bit W7 for over a year now. HBJB

matt40k Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Correct. I've been using it on 64 bit W7 for over a year now. HBJB Good, I posted that over a year ago. You should never mix 32bit FMS workstations with 64bit FMS workstations.
Menov321 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Can anyone shed any light on the printer issue, as currently Sims is randomly stopping printing whilst in the application. It says no printer can be found. Also every morning when I try to log on the runtime error 217 pops up and I have to reassign the same printer again by unchecking it as default and then reapplying it as default. This obviously is starting to get on my finance teams nerves so, was just seeing if anyone had any potential fixes. Thanks in advance
Menov321 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Yer, it's called the FMS Autumn 2011 release hahah, cool ill check it out
