damien.deakes Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I have recently redeveloped our website and would like some feedback on what you guys think. I know theres not much content on there yet but im basically focusing on getting the design right first. Would be great if you could tell me if you experience any issues in your browsers. www.hatfield.doncaster.sch.uk Cheers Damien
speckytecky Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Looks excellent to me - nice and clean, clear and functional.
clareq Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 In Opera I see this //>< in the top blue bar below the login and above search.
Hightower Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Nice work man. Nice and clean. Only gripe I would have is it is very thin, and with the higher resolutions in use today I would tend to widen it to around 1000 pixels. It looks a bit strange viewing something that thin on a big resolution as there is a load of white space (well, your background) at either side.
webman Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Not bad at all. The only thing I was going to point in Opera, clareq has already covered it; but then noticed that the footer graphic doesn't quite match up - perhaps an image will help explain.
damien.deakes Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the opera info guys. Will download opera to squash the bugs mentioned. And the slim design is due to us previously having a fluid large design and not having much content to fill it with plus wanted it graciously to fit in an EEEPC frame for our students who have them. Thanks for all your help so far Much appreciated. ALL opera issues should now be fixed Edited May 19, 2010 by damien.deakes 1
bossman Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 @damien.deakes: In Chrome the sixth form picture elements are not available in the subjects, apart from that I like the news element. Overall nice clean and clear although much work is needed on the content and it is by frog which must have cost a fortune? My daughters school has just had this installed and her reply to the school spending that amount of money was that they should have spent it on proper heating as the school during the winter is very very cold and the students were forced to take their outer garments off at the entrance to the school before they even got in.
damien.deakes Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 We were the first school that got frog so costs were very minimal 6 years ago! But our school is exactly the same with the heating and stuff. The sixth form subject pages are maintained by thath sixth form team so I need to speak to them to make sure they know what they are doing. Cheers
webman Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Nice one. Not sure if you're too bothered; but the top of the text "Copyright Hatfield Visual Arts College | Website built by Damien Deakes" is still touching the line above it (image I posted before) - in FF/Chrome it's vertically centred. 1
damien.deakes Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Thanks webman, This should be fixed now? Can I just state for the record that I HATE opera with a passion. It seems to make up its own rules! Thanks for the pointers though! Damien.
webman Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Yep, better Hehe. I've found Opera to pretty much implement the standards as they should be, but woe betide you if using a workaround for another browser in the process.
Ben-BSH Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Think it looks great! really well designed, and this photo in your image scroller is just superb! only thing i can spot, and this really is being picky. The "A Learning Community" & "Address" content at the bottom, possibly centered in the containers for each? to match the centering of the CEOP button?
Edu-IT Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Just out of interest is that button provided by CEOP or one you've made? Edit: Answered my own question. Seems they've updated the static button to a nice animated one. http://www.ceop.gov.uk/saferbydesign/reportabuse.asp
p858snake Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I would recommend giving the search box a slightly different colour/shade background so people catch onto what it is easier. I would probably move the "Powered by Frog" up onto the same line as the other credits, just for simplicity and seems kinda strange to have it down there.
