Window mounted LCD TV

I've just been asked about having a 42" TV mounted in the window of our soon to be built new foyer. Ideally, I would like the TV to be one of the new 'super thin' 'super energy efficient' ones but I'm kind of at a loss as to how to mount it in the best way.

 

Ideas I've had at the moment consist of tensioned wires such as those used in estate agent windows, but I don't know if that'd be possible - I have no idea where I'd start researching this one.

 

The other would be a little more 'low tech' and decidedly more ugly - to have it mounted on cross beams attached to the wall inside.

 

The final thought is this - we would also like to have one on the inside of the foyer, for people inside to read also - so if the TV's could be mounted back to back that would be fantastic.

 

Any ideas?

Samsung do a range of commercial lcds with a range specifically designed for window mounting.

Do you have a photo of the window you are trying to mount into?

 

This would probably give us a better idea of the solutions available, try and include the ceiling etc in the photo.

 

If its a new build, what about frosted glass and projecting from the rear onto it?

The window doesn't yet exist... It hasn't been built yet

 

The ceiling mount idea is interesting. I'll have a think about that.

The only issue with going down the projector route would be the levels of ambient light present. You may find that on sunny bright days the projector may not be able to combat the light making it difficult to see. I would suggest having a chat with the builders and PM's to try and put something in place before its finished being built. I find time and time again that AV is always an afterthought with builders and architects, you always end up having to come you with a work around which in most cases looks like an afterthought and can spoil a new building.

Just a thought, but to potentially save some expense is it possible for the TV to be mounted from the ceiling in front of the window?

unicol do ceiling mounts (back to back) we have used them for our plasma here.

I would go for the ceiling mount option and also have all the cabling on the ceiling, this would hide all the cables away too...we have a 42 inch plasma mounted from the ceiling in the dining room using this option.

 

Another idea would be to use an arm mounting bracket from the inside wall and position the tv in front of the window then.

 

If needs be i can take pics of both of our brakets like this to give you an idea.
