the_quick Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Hi All, Can anyone recommend software that will shutdown computers on the network at give time? I know few programs to shutdown via LAN but none of them offer schedule options. We have mix of CC3 pc and normal vanilla Windows XP machines all connected to domain. Thanks Kris
ahuxham Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 (edited) I think a few LA's actually offer a install/configuration service for Shutdownertron, albeit its free software they just install/configure it. The fact a LA uses it and approves of it, makes it good in my books. It's made by a fellow edugeek member: Powdarrmonkey, and is free to use on the network, its very easily configured, and works a charm Link: http://www.powdarrmonkey.net/software/shutdownertron/ Edited April 28, 2010 by ahuxham 2
the_quick Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 Thanks for reply. I was looking for something without need to install any additional software on client workstation. But will give closer look at Shutdownertron and try configure it
powdarrmonkey Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Shutdownertron's a Windows service but it's packaged in a sensible MSI, so you can deploy it in your normal way. Configuration is through group policy for maximum flexibility. 1
ahuxham Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 It's deployable via MSI, Powdarrmonkey would be able to offer a bit more advice. I'm sure it deploys as a windows service on the machines and is then edited via GPO with the settings required.
2097 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Very easy to install .. MSI zips it out to all clients. You then edit the settings in a GPO Another option would be.. Making a timed service to send a Shutdown RPC to all clients .
witch Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I recently implemented shutdownertron (with a bit of help from powdarrmonkey) via group policy etc. It was quite simple and works like a charm:o
skell Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 We run a scheduled task here. We set it to run the following at 19:00. shutdown.exe /s /t 1 Can be set and deployed via group policy.
K.C.Leblanc Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 PSSHUTDOWN on one of my servers with a bit of scripting. Although I suspect if I was doing it again I'd just use shutdownatron. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896649.aspx
the_quick Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 OK, all done now. Already service running on one PC, but I think I have to work on configuration. It would be great if schedule include days of week. I was asked to make it work on Friday night rather than everyday. I guess if I want to shutdown one group of computers like now I still have to use some other software of console command shutdown -i One think sorted, so is there a software that Start PCs at certain time? We have 5 computer rooms and would be great if I can start them from office. I tried to use few Wake on Lan programs, but they either did not work or I have to type in mac address of every PC I wanted to wake. Any ideas?
skell Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Specops Gpupdate - Remote gpupdate / Wake on lan (WOL) / restart / shutdown Great piece of software and completely free. Integrates with Active Directory console. 1
