JamesMason Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I need a new video spitter for splitting a PC output to a projector and monitor. I'm just wondering if people find budget models to cause ghosting should I spend more that the one in the link below? ATEN 1 in 2 out VGA Splitter 250MHz - Misco.co.uk Cheers.
3s-gtech Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 We have a couple of Rextron VSA12 models in service here, no ghosting or anything to report, cheap and very solid little metal cased units. 350MHz, will do 1280x1024.
Marci Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I tend to find it's more budget / overly long cables that cause ghosting than the splitter itself...
enjay Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I think we paid about £25 for ours (StarTech) and don't have any ghosting - except one PC which is on a very long cable run. Avoid the splitter cables, as these do ghost and cut the brightness right out, too.
dhicks Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Avoid the splitter cables, as these do ghost and cut the brightness right out, too. Any PCs we have hooked up to projectors use cheap (£5) splitter cables - image quality is fine, but I didn't think about checking the brightness of the projected image. Does it really make that much difference? -- David Hicks
36Degrees Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 We use these StarTech ST122LE although we only paid about £14.40 for them at the time (from ProBrand). They're USB powered, very small and do an excellent job.

We have some of these USB ones which take up less space, don't need a power socket and are very discrete.
maniac Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 We've got loads of the Rextron ones here, although only using a couple of them at the moment (for some reason we have a box full upstairs.) We've pushed a 1360x1024 image through them no problem for our digital signage, picture is crystal clear Mike.
OverWorked Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I've recently tried these passive splitter cables and had no problems with image quality - not noticeably any different from the active Lindy splitters. At £8.50 they're worth a try. Lindy VGA Splitter Cable (2 Way)

Does it really make that much difference? -- David Hicks We find using the splitter cables does affect image brightness and quality - It does vary by PC make though. We now try and use cheap graphics cards where possible.

Does it really make that much difference? Absolutely! Go and look at the monitor while you unplug the projector cable, and you'll see what I mean.
