You know I've never really put any thought into how it works, someone bought it for me and I just used it. After a bit of reading I realise it's exactly as you say, nothing is installed on it unlike a Firestick it's just a device for retreiving or displaying content. So I just stick Kodi on my phone or tablet and cast it........I think, not tried it yet Cheers all.

Hi all. I've seen a number of threads out there about using Firesticks for media streaming with Kodi and Mobdro. Has anyone here used a Chromecast for this? I can see the odd threads out there on using a Chromecast but before I waste my time or ruin my Chromecast I just wondered if anyone else here had tried it with a Chromecast and encountered any issues. Cheers all

Does that give you a clean factory restore though? Thanks.

Hi all. I'm having a few issues on my HP Envy notebook since the Windows 10 update. One is the damn start menu crashing every time an update has been installed, jesus how anoying is having updates forced upon you in the background. This need to be changed to at least give you a week warning before forcing the issue or something. Anyway I digress. I have a HP Envy 15 (15-j140na) notebook. It came with Windows 8.1 originally but then later updated to Windows 10 ( no debate on this please ). I'm a little unclear on what will happen if I factory restore the notebook, will it revert to Windows 8 and then I'll have to download Windows 10 again or will it restore Windows 10. I'd like to have some idea of what I'm facing before I start Cheers all Edit: Hmmm I think this might offer some answers. http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/software/operating-systems/1403794/how-to-reset-windows-10-to-factory-settings

I need a new video spitter for splitting a PC output to a projector and monitor. I'm just wondering if people find budget models to cause ghosting should I spend more that the one in the link below? ATEN 1 in 2 out VGA Splitter 250MHz - Misco.co.uk Cheers.

That's the same as on my plastic licence, the paper section has a section called 'Provisional Entitlement' that's where they're listed it's the first box on mine.

15 years since I did mine, i'm hoping that as i've still got the photo part with the correct details on that it'll be ok. This doesn't look good. BBC - Watchdog: DVLA removing licence entitlements

I'm having a nightmare. I have an interview on tuesday that requires me to have the C1 category on my driving licence. I've had a driving job before that required this category and it's on my photo ID card, the problem is that I set my paper licence off a while ago and the've sent the paper part back without C1 on (why do they do this? ). Has anyone got a clue where I stand? I can't ring today as the DVLA is closed what stance do you think they'll take with me still having the photo card with the 'correct' categories on? I know of stories where if both have been changed that they won't replace them without you taking the test

I'm sure this will apply to other schools but i'm setting this up in an EMBC school. We're about to upgrade to a layer 3 network with a new switch (HP3500yl) so we can use VLAN's, we'll also be installing Ruckus wireless with a Zonedirector. We have a SWG-700 Smoothwall box as well if that can help any, it would be nice for this traffic to go through the SW but not essential. I want to setup a VLAN that will enable the students to get on the WAP receive an IP from our DHCP server and access the internet but not be able to see the rest of our network, servers etc. Should this be possible with this setup/equipment, can the Ruckus Zonedirector VLAN traffic? Any suggestions appreciated, extra IP range etc. Thanks.

Has anyone got any good free resources on VLANs, i'd like to look into VLANs for camera traffic amongst other things. I've implemented a VLAN on a single switch to seperate a few devices in testing but never on a few switches. Can someone give me a quick break down on how it works when you have multiple switches. Would you just tell one switch that a certain port is in e.g. VLAN 1 and then connect that to another port on a different switch and tell it that the incoming port is also on VLAN 1? I should be using HP switches by the time I get around to this. One learning curve coming up. Thanks.

Has anyone here implemented NAP on Windows Server 2008? I'm interested in hearing what is exactly required VLAN, DHCP requirements, preferebly from someone who has it running rather than just reading the technet requirements. Thanks.

Hi all I'm looking into laptops and trollies. Can people with experience of this kit give me a ballpark figure of how much they've paid for this kind of setup. We'll be looking at around 30 laptops with a couple of trollies WAP etc. I'd just like to get an idea of prices before I start shopping around. Thanks.

Guys could you please elaborate on how the sun setup would benefit me here would it save money or provide extra functionality? Ric_ why do you use sun global desktop and Citrix, I was under the impression that they were competing services. Can you buy wireless Sun devices instead of netbooks/notebooks running Windows/Linux? Thanks.

Yes the remote access side of things will help smooth the expense over. It's difficult to quantify the expense of managing windows notebooks on wireless, I’ve spoken to a few schools and they seem to have no end of problems with slow or no access when they're all in use at the same time which would be common in this area. I think in light of this we'll push on with the thin client idea. @ apaton: we already have a Citrix farm in place. Thanks.

As I’ve read so many posts on here about issues with wireless notebooks swamping AP’s and being unreliable not to mention a faff to manage software wise I decided during a recent trial to try Citrix. We bought some XP Home netbooks and then used Citrix to deliver a desktop over wireless, these have worked flawlessly and I’ve hardly had to visit them. I'm just wondering if I can justify the extra cost to SLT as we roll out more notebooks. Does anyone here use Citrix for this? Do you think I can justify the extra initial cost? Cheers for any input.

Currently we review event logs each day if we get time, this basically involves running a search for bad logon attempts against the admin accounts and looking for repeated (hundreds) attempts against other accounts to look for virus like activity. We then archive the logs in case we need to return to them. How do you all manage your security event logs? Anyone using third party software to analise logs and flag certain conditions? Thanks.
