ict_support Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Hi All what have people found to be the best way to stop pupils from pulling out the network cable before group policy loads. They are doing this to by pass the proxy server set in IE
2097 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 cant u write a vbscript to set the policy locally ? i.e. in the startup folder. 1
jamesb Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Strip the shielding and wire through the mains? Failing that, maybe some epoxy, or there's a few threads on here which talk about blocking logon if group policy can't be detected. Here you go: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/13520-blocking-internet-access-2.html#post136703
Marci Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Snip the removal tab off each end's network connector. Arm your technicians with jewellers screwdrivers to get plugs out of sockets when actually needed.
RTFM Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Did some hunting and found; http://www.edugeek.net/forums/security/49064-login-then-pull-out-network-cable-admin.html http://www.edugeek.net/forums/scripts/20327-vbs-logon-ie.html 1
ict_support Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Thanks all for your replies Thanks RTFM for the link to the work done by smadison http://www.edugeek.net/forums/security/49064-login-then-pull-out-network-cable-admin.html. I have added the script to startup folder and it works a treat. Potato-Peeler: if only it was that easy 2097: startup folder was a good idea too jamesb: electirc shock sounds like a plan Marci: I am not into sniping cables etc as it would anoy me if I have to remove a cable and I could not get it out thanks all again
featured_spectre Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I have ours logging in via wireless, then when its logged in, it switches to cabled connection. Its fantastic, eliminates the worry about them pulling out the cable! Plus in order for them to do so, they have to go under the desk which is pretty obviously spotted!
mrbios Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Our approach was to make the computers completely inacessible to little kiddy hands, even saved money on not needing cases (albeit the special desks probably take up that cost)
_Adam_ Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Two ideas spring to mind, the harder one is to use IEAK to roll out IE "hard coded". The easier one is block 80/443 going out at the firewall other than for your proxy server. They don't get the proxy settings, then they get nothing.
aerospacemango Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Is there already a thread for using IEAK? I have just downloaded it, and put my first package together....want to know the best way of deploying it.
