After looking round for quite a while we settled on a Magicard Opera from securit. Was very impressive during the demo and seemed decent value too, not too costly to run either. Sadly the order never got placed due to so I can't tell you how good they are in the real world so to speak...

You should be able to sort yourself out with a full system (software, printer, stack of cards, ribbon, camera) with change from £1500...

Depends how much useage you're going to have and what need for speed you have (we were looking at staff only so speed didn't come into it)

Securit World Ltd ID Card Printers Ribbons, ID Card Systems, Identity Card Printing, Visitor Management Systems and ID Accessories

Give them a mail - they happily came out and did us a demo.

We have just been looking at the same thing. Joe Aucott at CP LTD came up with two good suggestions for us. Just waiting to hear back to see if we can get the funding.... Or if Joe was feeling his generous self and wanted to give it to us for free....

We have a Magicard Pronto Printer which cost: £595.00 and it does actually come with a ribbon and we had to order a ribbon the other day and that cost £55

MagiCard Pronto Printer Part Number: 316-7200

Cleaning Cards 5x Card and 1x Pen: £25.00

PVC Cards: £16.00 for x100

Obviously you will have to purchase the cards, but it depends if you want it working with your Door Access System (which you may / may not have) and if so then you could pick up plain plastic cards next to nothing.

They were the prices we paid, weather they have gone down/up now i could not say.

Hope that helps,

James.

But i will be sure to post the exact printer when i have decided :D

Another Recommendation for Secureit people linked to at the top, had them out the other day to demo the kit as they were in the area and its great stuff and the sales rep Mike was very helpful and a really nice guy. Got myself a nice new ID card far nicer than the rubbish we have so far.
