Morning all,

 

Just been looking at the lineup for V Festival this summer. Having bought my ticket last September when a limited number were put on sale at the previous years prices, I was pleased to see Kasabian and the Kings of Leon as Headliners (along with bands like Editors, Stereophonics, The Kooks, Madness, Doves, White Lies, The Prodigy etc etc) given it was a relative risk buying the tickets so early with no idea who might be announced.

 

So I thought I'd see if anyone else is hitting V Festival, or any other Music Festival this Summer and what you think of the lineups if you are going?

I shall be at the Wickerman Festival in Scotland (as usual) as it's very family freindly and has a great atmosphere. No acts announced as of yet, but they never disappoint with a nice varied array of artists.

Oh, and they burn a full sized wickerman at midnight on the Saturday:

We had a great view of the burning from our teepee last year as the kids were sound asleep inside.

Make sure you get to see White Lies. They really do put on a good show, and their music is first class. And take a look at their site. Now THAT'S a background! (broadband may be required!!).

I shall be going to Download and to the Leeds Festival. Wasn't going to do Download but my mate had a spare ticket and then they announced the headliners...ACDC, Aerosmith and Rage Against the Machine...how could I not go?? Lol.

 

Of course Leeds hasn't been announced yet so having pre-ordered my tickets was risky but I find Leeds never disappoints.

White Lies

 

Good shout, I saw White Lies at Glastonbury last year and loved every second. Their album is quality as well, really looking forward to seeing these again.

 

I'm also looking at going to Wakestock for a day, purely because Maximo Park (probably my favourite live band) have been announced as one of the headliners..just waiting for them to confirm whcih day they're playing :-)

Glastonbury here for the 4th time running! I've been to quite a few of the festivals, but Glastonbury is the only one I keep returning to!

Im going to reading this year instead of leeds, woop!

 

Bad move, the southerners haven't got a clue how to festival properly, went to reading last year and the crowd just stood there wheras stafford went mental for V festival.

 

Just my 2penneth, sorry to the southerners i'll no doubt offend :)

I've now applied for the Radio 1 "Big Weekend" as well.....lineup isn't great plus most of the bands I'd want to see are playing V as well but hey ho, it's free and it's only a few miles from the caravan :-)

 

And only a non festival musical note, I bought tickets for Richard Ashcroft and his new band (United Nations of Sound) in June :-) As long as he plays some of The Verve's back catalogue it will be immense :-)

Not doing any festivals this year. In fact I've only got 1 concert booked for the whole year - Squeeze and the The Lighnening Seeds in December. I even (shock, horror) passed on seeing Crowded House again this year as I thought £45 a tick was a bit too rich :(

 

I've been to the Isle of Wight festival and London Calling is the past and have also done a couple of the Forest gigs. I keep meaning to do the local Lattitude Festival but their line up (other than the first year) is always pants. V seems to always get the best line ups but the ticket price is criminal! (criminal meaning I seriously could not afford it).

 

And only a non festival musical note, I bought tickets for Richard Ashcroft and his new band (United Nations of Sound) in June :-) As long as he plays some of The Verve's back catalogue it will be immense :-)

 

That'd be Urban Hymes then ;)

 

Must admit would love to see hime love some time. His solo stuff has been pretty good, very under rated. Better solo than with the Verve IMHO.

Pretty much Urban Hymns, but if you've never heard it then check out "History" off the Northern Soul album, that is absolutely stunning.

 

I've seen Ashcroft on numerous occasions in many different sized and type of venue and he is truly phenomenal. A particular favourite was seeing him reform The Verve for V festival 2008, and being stood in the pouring rain listening to anthemic beauty at its finest (don't think I've made that word up :-) ) I agree entirely in that his solo stuff is very good and is criminally underrated.

Aye, 'History' and 'On Your Own' from Northern Soul are classics. Bit of trivia - Those two where the first songs Aschcroft penned and he penned most (all?) or Urban Hymes. Say's it all really. Sorry but they were cr*p before he started writing the songs and he has been better with out them (Fourth was a major disapointment!). Liking the new track - Are You Ready with the ne band though.

Agreed again, I do like the new song and Fourth was a major disappointment. Have to admit I didn't know those were the first two songs Ashcroft penned, although I did know that History was written shortly before they started work on Urban Hymns hence the similar sound.

 

It's only a word if you're a music journalist ;)

 

At least it's not entirely made up then :-)

WOMAD and Reading Festival for me this year. It will be my first time at WOMAD but I'm going with a bunch of people who have been before who would highly recommend it to anyone.

 

This will be my 7th Reading Festival on the trot :eek:

Woohoo!! Just got the confirmation email through, I've got tickets to Radio 1's Big Weekend on the Saturday!!

 

Im going on both days - i got staff tickets!

 

I work at most festivals during the summer from beginning of June to End of august on a catering trailer - its normally got a big blue elephant on the roof and we serve curry if anybody has eaten from it/seen it.

 

Having been to most major festivals this side of Timbuktu I have to say reading is the worse one to work at espcially after the prodigy have been on and the crowd goes mental! but the ones i like are the IOW (11/12/13 june) and Latitude (15h-18th July). I have to say Glastonbury is over rated for what it is as it is so blooming big! Hard Rock Calling in Hyde park is quite a good festival aswell - which then leads onto 02 wireless.
