Summer Festivals

Awakenings Festival near Amsterdam for me this year as well as a couple of UK festival I would imagine. Went to Timewarp in Germany in March too - awesome!

Local radio station here has been giving away tickets (and flights, spending money etc) to a different UK festival every day this week. Tried to enter the T in the Park day but didnt win

 

Get 2 tickets through for to TITP every year anyway, but could have done with free flights home.. Will probably just give my tickets to my sister or something..

I'm not going to any festivals this year, the cost of tickets has really killed it for me. It's not exactly a festival but I'll be going to Amecon - the biggest Anime convention of the summer, plenty of music, drinking, partying and you can wear whatever you like I'll be going as Fang from FFXIII, the making of the staff is proving to be challenging - I spent a good hour in the plumbing section at B&Q contemplating various bits of pipe and foam for it the other day.

 

Even better is that it's taking place in the Midlands at Keele University - means I can visit Stafford and prod everyone who I know there as well.

Our summer of festivals finished last weekend... Managed to get to StereoSonic, Field Day, Big Day Out, and the very first Creamfields Australia which was on last weekend...

 

all been 1 day events, so its been wierd going there semi sober, and the drinks being so expensive you leave semi sober too..

Found a festivals in France and spain, july, both with fairly decent lineups, but for less than £100! (there are probably many similar to be found elsewhere in Europe too.) English festivals are seriously taking p1$$ with their prices. they can do one.

This is true, having worked there and knowing the costings of taking a food trailer there you realise that the only people making loads of money are the festival organisers. The problem is most of them are all run by the same company (Live Nation). For example Reading festival charges each person about £150 for a weekend ticket times that by 70,000 for the amount of customers there is 12 million, then then charge each stool holder/trailier between 5k and 10k for a weekend pitch thats nearly another million, plus they run the bars and charge stupid prices and take millions more again. They also then sell the merchandise and take the profits from that!

 

This is for reading which out of the big shows is probly the smallest.

Its a shame theres such a monopoly with a few companies controlling the majority of festivals, they do absolutely rake it in. Problem is even the independent festivals, as soon as they start getting bigger, no doubt one of the big boys comes in and makes the organisers an offer they cant refuse

Now also going to the Hop Farm festival headlined by the one and only Bob Dylan with loads of other folky acts. Should be bloody amazing to say the least

I'll be going to Godiva in Cov - some of the local acts can be very good.
