I'm working in small office with a server rack right behind me, I dont have much space to fix things, and when they want it fixing they want it now! so my desk is often cover in computer parts, laptops, cables and paper work. Im on my own, I simply just don't have time to tidy, or when I do I often get bugged for something that has to be done right now!

now god damn it!!!!. RANT OVER

Is your room as bad as mine!?

Posted

Probably.

We do have a seperate office/workshop thou which I've had benching installed round one end of so we've got a proper place to work on laptops etc. The rule in the office is no working on machines at your desk - use the workshop!

Sounds like you need more space, it's no fun working in the same room as the servers. You could try the health and safety card to persuade management to do this - they're pretty loud those things ;)

We moved into a new office summer 2008. There are 2 of us and we have 3 areas to our office:

  • the main room where we work, where the entrance is and where we deal with day-to-day requests
  • the workshop next door which houses the main cab and a reasonably sized workbench
  • a separate server room next to that which houses.. servers!

Workshop and server room where taken from the LRC next door when that was refurbished, and a new door was fitted in our main room for access.

All 3 rooms have air-con. Our old room before this was somewhat squashed (3 people in an office smaller than the 2 of us have now). Visitors who come in do compliment our area, and engineers who come to work here (fixing equipment etc) seem happy that they can sit "out the way" with plenty of space :)

We also have a reasonably sized storeroom to hold.. storeroom stuff!

You guys get an office!!!

I have a corner of the library with a piece of kitchen worktop as a desk, total floor area about 2x3m

...

:p

We have a room between 3 of us with a rack, all toners, laptops, photocopier, cabinets... it's not that bad considering we have no space. Each holiday we clean it, by end of week 1 it's a mess again

I'm a tidy freak...so everything is stupidly tidy.

Our server room consists of our server cab, with servers in, UPS, Power sockets and Network sockets...thats it.

Our office has just our desks and our computers (all paperwork and files are in a cabinet)

Even our store room/workshop is stupidly tidy :D

Yes, Quite probably!!

Every flat surface has something on it.

I usually find that when I tidy something it just makes way for more mess :p

I have a bench for working on but it's usually full of parts so I really need to tidy. Used to be in the server room itself but did play the health and safety card so they found me another room

The office seems to get in a mess every few months until I get annoyed during a holiday period and clear it all out :D. Unfortunately we don't have a store room, or work room so everything gets dumped in the office :(.

Server room is a mess of cables at the moment due to some problems when we moved into it in September. A server room with power that trips out every 5 minutes = no fun. Planning to tidy it up a little next week, and have a good go at tidying it at Easter.

every week I tidy up, as it gradually becomes a mess during the week. My office space is roughly 2.5m, by 4m, and I have 3 of the childrens tables as desks with draws poached from other desks that have been thrown out. Sad I know but its my space, I do with it as I please.

I've got a little desk in corner of the room where the stock and HLTA's are with a small cupboard behind me and a window sill to the left.

I'm always getting little digs about me desk! As soon as i clean it its covered again!!

server room is full of old equipment that we cant dispose of because its broken but the governers havent written it off yet.

Office is a bit of a mess with workbench and floor covered in various projects i am doing, cupboard piled high with toner cartridges. En Suite bathroom looks ok though, although still have an issue with it not having a mirror and towel rail.

ha, mines a state!

decommissioning two offices and being in and out of the country for a while have left my desk looking like a bomb site as I just chuck things on it while I'm here.

And as for the server room, we're currently taking out most of the hardware as we've virtualized almost everything....so its also a state.

I'd love to have some time to sort it out.... :(

Place I used to work was dire! Two server room that looked more like tips, and lots of 10 year old cabs with 1-meter-patch-lead-no-cable-management-rat-nest-mess!

Place I work at now.

Server room, tidy :)

And we've just moved to a new switch cab which we made super neat :)

I like tidy a lot better!

Atm i have a very nice 'office'.

The room is about 8m x 10m with a L shaped desk 3m x 2.5m and another desk 4m. (used for repairs)

There are a few student work spaces in the same room, but they are hardly used.

On the 1st floor a have airco controlled server room 3m x 4m and on the 3rd floor i have a storage room, also 3m x 4m.
