Kamran7860 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Hi I am a third year university student, doing a project on "The use of virtualisation to consolidate and migrate servers". I would really appreciate it if you could spare some time do a quick survey. shown below is link to the survey. Click Here or use the following link: http://www.surveypirate.com/Survey.aspx?surveyid=10211&hash=IoK0tbdtv3QjnqE7cwRPfw%3d%3d Any other feedback is welcome. Thanks
leco Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Done. Do you want feedback on the survey or just the data? 1
Kamran7860 Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Feedback would be nice as well. thanks
webman Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Completed. Feedback: I wasn't sure if the "How many virtual servers do you have deployed at the moment?" question was for number of physical servers used for virtualisation, or number of virtual servers spread across hosts. In my case the answer is the same regardless, but just thought it could be more clear 1

pete Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Done. If you haven't already, look in the Server Room over at Ars for "in the trenches" type info: The Server Room - Forum Powered by Social Strata Specifically this thread: Biggest mistake you (or someone else) has made in a virtualization deployment? - Topic Powered by Social Strata You missed out common problems/decisions with virtualisation projects in your survey (vm-sprawl: depts who'd normally give "x" out of their budgets for a physical server thinking virtual servers are "free", backend storage decisions, vendors not supporting their products in virtual environments) 1
chazzy2501 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Done. Virtualisation has lowered my stress levels! I love snapshots... 1
powdarrmonkey Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Done. One point: as a school, we have ~100 actual members of staff but with students, nearer 800 - they are users in exactly the same way, so 'employees' is a tricky term for an edu site 1
Kamran7860 Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) Thanks for taking the survey. results are interesting. Edited January 15, 2010 by Kamran7860
