Dos_Box Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I have just got back a PC we had loaned out the other day and inside we had fitted a 750GB SATA drive. What I now need is an external hard drive enclosure with a GB LAN port\USB that is SATA compatable. They are, for the most part still IDE P.S. I have fitted the drive to my desktop PC to wipe it, but having over 1TB of storage on your desktop seems just plain wrong.
john Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 CCL had something appear the other day that I'm sure was just the thing you need but I cannot seem to find it at the second.....
webman Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Scan.co.uk do loads of this type of stuff: Enermax IcyBox ... and more!
beeswax Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 we had one delivered the other day. it's a 3.5 ide/sata combo usb 2.0 enclosure made by newlink and we bought it from scan computers, just under £19
Dos_Box Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Scan.co.uk do loads of this type of stuff: Enermax IcyBox ... and more! I want NETWORK!!! I have just had 4 IcyBox cases arrive this week (the ones you have shown me). I need to use this drive on the network to make the best use of it.
Dos_Box Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Oh, and the Icy Box only has an EXTERNAL SATA connector. It is still only IDE inside. They didn't word that very well on the item.
ChrisH Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 You can get the Icy box with the internal SATA I have both types. I connect mine to the internal ports with a SATA extension back plate thingerydufermerry.
webman Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Ah, sorry Dos_Box... But I think they might do the LAN ones aswell.
OutToLunch Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Disk Station DS-106e maybe? Pricy, but nice specs and features. http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS106serise/spec.php Seen them for around £120-130 ex VAT.
Dos_Box Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 For the money that the Synology device costs I think I'll go with this D-Link one: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=49GV&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=d+link&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0
