Essentially, list what you want to swap (or dispose of), whether you want anything for it and what condition it's in. People can then ask questions in the item thread and all arrangements are carried out off-forum.

 

We have cupboards full of stuff that we don't need, but does work fine. I'm sure that somewhere out there, a sysadmin is looking for something we're about to skip.

I like the sound of this, we've all got odd and sods that we're free to dispose of but struggle to justify chucking. Swaps or free to a good home would work with the onus on the recipient to arrange collection/carriage.

I don't know, what might seem like junk to a secondary school could be worth something to a primary school where money is more of a hard ship. If a school can get one or two years more our of old equipment then it's a very good deal, especially if it's free to them.

It sounds like a good idea to me. Thin client schools can still use p133's ! but bin dual xeon p3 servers.

We have a good pile of stuff to get rid of such as a Dlink DES-6000 chassis switch with 96 100mbit ports, 2 gigabit fibre ports and 12 100Mbit fibre ports. And a pile of DES-1024R+'s (7 to be precise, 3 with 100mbit fibre panels) and some even older 10Mbit hubs!!

 

A forum to put these up would be good.

That DES-6000 sounds exactly like what we have as our core switch - very tempted! Damn their big tho' - would need to break out the 2nd rack!!

I'd be tempted by the DES6000 as well especially as I could image a couple of rooms away from the rest of the network.

FYI -I managed to get rid of 33 300, 400 and 500MHz machines on freecycle - only had to wipe them - AND I got rid of 7 broken machines to a teacher who teaches children to build stuff!

Cost to the school - NOTHING!!

Yep - got a Dell Powerapp Web 100 rack mount server - not sure of specs but PIII 700 ish. All yours if you fancy a trip to sunny Bournemouth!

This certainly looks useful! I agree with the comment about primary schools. We could certainly make use of a lot of stuff secondary schools throw out (which is an awful shame really, I think we should be more closely linked with the local secondary schools).

 

We have a bunch of 300MHz and 600MHz Tiny computers stacked up at the back of the ICT Suite waiting for me to decide exactly what to do with them. I'm doubting anyone on here wants them though and I don't even think ICT Direct would take them as a donation they are that old.
