RabbieBurns Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 tomorrow is today, and its time for work right now
Andrew_C Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 (edited) For me, a nice short term (only 9 weeks - eek) and lots of interesting problems to solve! Edit- And the beard stays. It is older than ALL of your students, and I suspect many of you. It will be 30 this summer! Edited January 3, 2010 by Andrew_C
CSNM-Carl Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I wonder if many schools are going to be closed due to the snow!

Happy New Year. 1
tech_guy Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Yes, I've just hacked off most of the foliage on my chin ready for tomorrow - sporting a nice number 1 now. Wish I could cycle to work - I'd be super-fit as it's 25 miles each way! Not really looking forward to tomorrow as it's a training day and people will be whingeing and something will have invariably died in the two weeks it's all been left to its own devices.
CSNM-Carl Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Cycle to work? That should be interesting. You might want to pack some skis. Happy New Year. I thought bikes were good in snow? A bike would be no use to me, I only have to walk across the hallway to my office!
spacevortex Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 email already arriving and some posts on our ticket support desk.......at least our kids arn't back until Tuesday.
e_g_r Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 Wish I could cycle to work - I'd be super-fit as it's 25 miles each way! Only 12 each way for me. Thanks Beeswax, will wear my thermals
broc Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I read a news report in our local paper that there was an extended power cut in the village where my school is located, so at 8am tomorrow morning I am expecting to find a complete network shutdown took place last week, with loads of tripped breakers to make life interesting while I try and restore power.....always assuming I can get into the village because of snow
mac_shinobi Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I thought bikes were good in snow? A bike would be no use to me, I only have to walk across the hallway to my office! Wish I could say the same - working from home would be a god send !!
dsm Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Now is not a good time to be living at the bottom of two hills, each with a road that goes to work. Or is it...
witch Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I'm not in until later than usual (usually 07.30am) due to a hospital appointment - I wonder if they will remember that the server is off due to electrical works over the holiday?
elsiegee40 Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I wonder if they will remember that the server is off due to electrical works over the holiday? No chance! I'll be in at 8... racing round, turning on projectors and printers to try and by-pass the worst of the post-Christmas teacher-amnesia. No children until Wednesday. Password resets before lunchtime, I expect (Except this one Crystal Ball failure... it's started already. )
pritchardavid Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 We got to put all our projectors backup tomorrow, have all day to do it through (Staff training day) School makes us take them down at half term for security reasons Some we dont have to take down throught, some are installed into security cages So we have piles of projectors in our room, waiting to be put back up
DrCheese Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 School makes us take them down at half term for security reasons Wow, that seems like a giant waste of time, It would us nearly a day or even longer to do that for every single one at our place :X Surely any theft over the holidays would be covered by insurance as long as the site is reasonably secure. As for me, I have tomorrow off Not contracted to work training days. Gotta get back into a decent sleeping pattern tho... which considering it's 3:45 now is going to be hard :/
Abaddon Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I'll be heading in shortly, so there before 6am. I'm sure everything is fine - no calls for help from any servers, and I fixed the CCTV yesterday morning, remotely. Looking forward to a quiet day, watching my techs run around resetting password for the staff who forgot them over the long break.
beeswax Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Only 12 each way for me. Thanks Beeswax, will wear my thermals Birch Road has now been gritted but there was a very hard frost last night (Sunday). We had 10 centimetres (4 inches) of snow on Saturday morning (I think, I'm beginning to lose track of the days). 1
laserblazer Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Inset Day today but I got in early. Just as well as the last admin server backup hadn't worked so I have time to get it done before the troops arrive and MUST have access to it.
pagelad Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Kids are back here, Managed to make it in the snow but its still stupidly cold (-4) Only problem here seems to be a server rebooted over the holidays, have a feeling its going to be a long boring day!
