witch Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Quite interesting but certainly VERY over the top... In this house people began to shout 'get on with it' at moments here and there - particularly during the gun scene. And what Did happen to the Master - did he die or not? Did we know that the Timelords had gone 'bad' - has it ever been mentioned before? I always thought the Doctor was sad that they had all died
localzuk Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Quite interesting but certainly VERY over the top... In this house people began to shout 'get on with it' at moments here and there - particularly during the gun scene. And what Did happen to the Master - did he die or not? According to the Dr Who Confidential show, the Master 'vanished fighting the timelords, into a void'. Therefore leaving it open for him to return in future seasons. Did we know that the Timelords had gone 'bad' - has it ever been mentioned before? I always thought the Doctor was sad that they had all died It was kinda indicated that there was some unspoken horribleness that had occurred. I liked the episodes, they had their usual good mix of silly and drama, which is what makes Dr Who good. Matt Smith has got some big shoes to fill to keep it as popular as it has been with Tennant.
Andrew_C Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I quite enjoyed him; Ecclestone was better though... We'll have to wait to see what the next one brings to the part.
garethEds Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I quite enjoyed him; Ecclestone was better though... We'll have to wait to see what the next one brings to the part. Let's give him the chance. He certainly seemed cheeky enough in his first 5 minutes. GJE
chrisredfield93 Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 didnt anyone notice this was filmed in tredger house :S and well they did use the name barrack obama sorry on spelling
garethEds Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 They said about Tredegar House in the Dr Who Confidential last week. Not watched the Confidential bit this week. Will watch it later. One thing I did notice was at several points the cacti woman didn't have her face makeup on just the headgear? Small thing - but I did see it several times. Bernard Cribbins was very, very good. Martha Jones looked good at the end as well. Gareth

Andrew_C Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Let's give him the chance. I meant Tennant. Will certainly give this one a chance. We can't afford to go through them too quickly; only two regenerations left!
chrisredfield93 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Love your sig Thanks What did you mean by only two regenerations left? Andrew_C im confused
Simcfc73 Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 have to admit I did well up a little. And for gods sake... Captain Jack is gay.. do we need it ramming down our throats every time he gets screen time
Andrew_C Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who]The Doctor can only regenerate 12 times.[/ame] As a Time Lord, the Doctor has the ability to regenerate his body when near death. Introduced into the storyline as a way of continuing the series when the writers were faced with the departure of lead actor William Hartnell in 1966, it has continued to be a major element of the series, allowing for the recasting of the lead actor when the need arises. The serial The Deadly Assassin established that a Time Lord can regenerate twelve times, for a total of thirteen incarnations (although at least one Time Lord, the Master, has managed to circumvent this). To date, the Doctor has gone through this process and its resulting after-effects on ten occasions, with each of his incarnations having his own quirks and abilities but otherwise sharing the memories and experience of the previous incarnations: Although if the Master can manage more, there may be hope for the universe!
bossman Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I remember the very first screening as a kid and boy was it good then as it seemed monsters coming from everywhere hehe!! But the last episode was a little heartrending if not a little over the top. Still cracking stuff to say it is the longest running tv series of all time.
sparkeh Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Thanks What did you mean by only two regenerations left? Andrew_C im confused It has been stated before that the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times, then he dies. Edit: whoops this has already been answered above
sparkeh Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Ok I've watched the second part now and I have to say I was disappointed at just how self indulgent the episode became. The last 20mins or so was devoted to saying goodbye to David Tennant and was quite boring, part of the Dr Who regeneration thing is that no one Doctor or actor is bigger than the Doctor as a whole or show. I know he was a popular Doctor but no one has received that amount of schmaltz and it was over the top. An interesting read is Tom Baker's Autobiography "Who on Earth is Tom Baker?" where he talks about being axed as the Doctor whilst at the height of his popularity as he had began to believe he was indispensable and started throwing his weight around, but was told that no one is bigger than the show and shown the door. Everyone will move on with Matt Smith and Tennant remembered as a good Doctor but I think we might look back at his leaving as over the top. 1
localzuk Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 And for gods sake... Captain Jack is gay.. do we need it ramming down our throats every time he gets screen time So, if he hadn't been gay and the Doctor had introduced him to a woman, would you be saying this same thing? I doubt it.
mb2k01 Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 ...Captain Jack is gay.. do we need it ramming down our throats every time he gets screen time Interesting choice of words / use of imagery?! I agree to a certain extent. I'm not sure that prime time BBC shows with a large child-based audience should really push promiscuous bar meetings as the way forward! For the Doctor to be seen aiding a sleezy pick up (be it hetro/homosexual) sends out the wrong message really. If it was on Tourchwood then fine as that's what the series is like, but not Dr Who.
DaveMurphy Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Alonso for Torchwood Series 4 me thinks!!!!!!!... Tosh, Owen and Ianto (RIP) but he's looking for 3 replacements now surely!?! When's the Soundtracks out? I want the Ood singalong song at the end.
russdev Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I am not sure I quite liked the end as first time the doctor has had time to deal with (all be it his version) of death. What would you do if you knew you were about to die and could travel anywhere in time and space. Still think Sophie Aldred should come back as the side kick Russ
