I'm trying to get my hands on an LCD for a laptop that a wonderful science teacher has crushed.

I can't be the only one to ever suffer this problem, so i was wondering if you guys have any experience of reliable suppliers that may be able to source me a spare.

Or, if you guys have a dead Compal CL51 (Acer travelmate 290, RM nbook4000) lieing around with a decent screen i have a home for it.

Cheers,

Matt

Yup, same sort of experience here with a laptop which lost an argument with a teacher and a pencil sharpener.

New screen for a Dell, less than a year old, £275 + £12 carriage + VAT. Then I was offered a 'generous' £25 off "seeing as it's for a school"!!! 8O

Interesting to note that, although the thing isn't even out of warranty yet, Dell won't supply the screen, saying it's discontinued!

I have had the same problem just last week with would you believe it a science teacher shutting the laptop with something inside it thus cracking the screen. It is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L10 and the cost for new screen without fitting just short of £300 so i have recommended to the head of science to purshase another laptop and use the other as spares but if anyone has a knackered toshiba same model but screen intact i could find it a wonderful teacherless home.

I got a replacement from ServiceSource recently for a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro. Altogether cost just less than £300 if I remember rightly, which was less than another laptop.

I made sure to point out to the person ordering it that there was no guarantee it would be a successful repair as I'd not done it before, but it turned out to be pretty simple.

I have had to change 3 Toshiba Laptop screens already this term, as if budgets aren't tight to start with teachers just do not seem to respect the laptops they have been provided through school. Im sure if it was there own personal laptop it would be tret a lot better.
