The other admins know more about this than me... I never really got involved in it... but there was a point where we used to accept donations for the running of the site. Those that were kind enough to donate some of their hard earned coin were thanked by way of a little badge under their nick.

Now that we have other revenue streams, we don't rely upon donations though so it has become a bit of a legacy thing. Of course, if you are feeling guilty about blocking our ads or simply have too much money, donations are still welcomed and a badge will be emblazened upon your account.

Other badges are received for being a moderator or helping out at BETT. We even have an EduDog badge :D

Would people like the opportunity to earn different badges?

I think it would be nice to give a badge to recognise those who have made a sustained contribution to in terms of knowledge and helping people but haven't necessarily given money or helped at BETT or is a Mod. I can think of a few people that deserve a special mention. Something like 'EduGuru'?

Oh and btw before people say that is what rep is for, I am not sure that it is necessarily the same thing.

I'd find it amusing to be able to earn other badges.

Well rep is subjective and user-assigned, wheras a badge is a sort of admin-endorsed recognition, so I think I agree with you.

I had a supporters badge, but then started work on projects and it got replaced :(

Yeah is it possible to have more than one badge displayed?

Could get like the scouts! :)

As long as it doesn't get to the point where you have to scroll half a page just to reach the end of a persons post because they have too many badges. That cheeses me right off!

EduTeach for those who are teachers as well.

EduCo for ICT Coordinators

EduTech for Technical Staff

EduStressed - self explanatory

A bit like the Piggin' series of ornaments my wife used to collect for some strange reason.

How about an EduTroll badge, for the person deemed, on a monthly basis, to have trolled the most :D :troll:

On a more serious note - badges seem like a good idea for differentiating between different groups of people on the site, but too many would make them kinda silly and pointless.

I agree. It's pretty obvious who the real gurus are... usually from their rep

Talking of gurus... anyone heard from SYNACK recently?

Where do I donate, can't find the page?

Weird one of my posts totally disappeared.

Anyway, in summary it said that I thought it could also be nice to recognise someone's contribution and knowledge to a particular area, eg ISA guru, ExchangeGuru etc.

I really think that this is different to rep, case in point: I received a huge amount of rep for making one joke a few months back, whilst its nice to brighten people's days, its not a contribution to the combined knowledge of the site.

I prefer to learn who's who because I know them. I don't like the segregation that might cause (though I suppose supporter is a bit of a fine line with that too).

It was taken down.

If you want to know my address, I'm more than happy to process your donation. ;)

(I'm not actually being serious, before I get snapped at!)

So maybe it might be a better idea to have badges that reflect industry.

School

NHS

Private Company

Trader

Sales

and so on....

WOuld need to define categories.
