Dos_Box Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 This is quite a serious question, and onme I ask every now and again. When we meet with other companies the first thing they usually ask is 'So what exactly is EduGeek?', and my reply is often 'What, you mean you don't know?!' Then it becomes a bit hard to explain an online community, what it does (remeber, these are often sales people who honestly still belive that click-throughs are the only way to gauge an effective online ad campagn) and what it is we all do on and through EduGeek. So how would you describe us to a total stranger, keeping it as short and to the point as possible?
Dos_Box Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 "The Answer" Ooooh. Nice on so many levels! *Mind you, wern't Smarties supposed to be that?*
pooley Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 We are EduBorg, a collective of geeks and techies linked via a interconnected collective = Edugeek. The answer to all ICT problems, a repository unrivalled in its knowledge and ambition to find the answer to everything.
fafster Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 It's like the local pub, crossed with a library.
sandeep2504 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I think the edugeek tagline in the heading somes it up perfectly: "the educational IT professionals' life line"
BandyQuill Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 those people you dont want to ask 'i wonder how the computer starts when i press the power button...'
Dos_Box Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Mumsnet for techies We are actually catching them up in the net rankings! They are 24,547 and we are 39,287, we were 120,000-ish this time last year.
teejay Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 We are actually catcing them up in the net ranking! They are 24,547 and we are 39,287, we were 120,000-ish this time last year. Wow, nice going
Dos_Box Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Wow, nice going There are apparently 100 million plus sites now!
ahuxham Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 We are antagonising to our "Online Community"?
dalsoth Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 A forum for techs in education. Also somewhere that the owners can sell subscriptions for others to advertise to us etc...
Dos_Box Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 A forum for techs in education. Also somewhere that the owners can sell subscriptions for others to advertise to us etc... You should see what the industry players want us to charge you!! Almost every time I meet an MD the first thing they say is 'Why don't you make it subscription only?'
SC-UK Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Ooooh. Nice on so many levels! *Mind you, wern't Smarties supposed to be that?* Ok then, "EduGeek, the new Smarties" Doesn't really have the same ring to it!
mattx Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 You should see what the industry players want us to charge you!! Almost every time I meet an MD the first thing they say is 'Why don't you make it subscription only?' That's because all they think about is money money money - stick 'em in the same lot as the bankers of this world. Either that or hang 'em up by their testicles. 1
tmcd35 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 "An IT technical forum made up from representitives of almost every school in the UK, and major suppliers to the UK education market, and international IT education bods". If a simple click through advert to sell to every school in the UK doesn't get the sales bod interested - he can't be much of a sales bod, or doesn't think the education market could drive enough sales for him.
bossman Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 @Dos_Box: What about "The IT Oracle" a fountain of professional IT wisdom in a box. 1
localzuk Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 A place where suppliers, edugeeks, and manufacturers can all get together and live in harmony. So long as no-one states a preference in a long list of product vs product wars. I tell suppliers I come across I explain to them that it is a good place to get your company a good name. To schools I know of I explain to them that it is invaluable as a support net to our every day lives.
tom_newton Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Why don't you charge a subscription.. then EG could be nearly as good as experts exchange 1
GrumbleDook Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. NO?
