jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 So just change the ISO and install Ultimate? care to explain? PID?
jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 VERY ODD I've just looked at the ISO i have for W7. I've expanded the ISO with winrar and gone to Sources > Product.ini In that folder there seems to be all the serial keys for all the different editions of W7 including VLK's and datacentre editions! Have tried the key listed for premium and it works!! Screen shots to follow
CHR1S Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 MODS - Please delete me if you feel its inappropreate, I dont feel its illegal because you would still require legitemate serial keys. How to install any version of Windows 7 | Windows 7 Center 2

jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Question would be, where did you get the ISO from? Brought it this morning from the link in this thread which then prompted for a download from digitalriver Seriously this is a legit copy. screenshot coming up
CHR1S Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Brought it this morning from the link in this thread which then prompted for a download from digitalriver Seriously this is a legit copy. screenshot coming up I never doubted that mate, I wonder if they provide a master image to download similar to OEM that doesnt require a certificate to install? They seriously screwed up if they did!
jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 When i brought the W7 from the student site today it prompted me to download an application from digitalriver. This was a small app. When i ran it, it downloaded W7 onto my computer in 3 files. Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86.exe Setup1.box Setup2.box When you run the exe it extracts all the setup files to a folder called ExandedSetup Then in there there is a sources folder, located the Product.ini and found all the SN's

ChrisH Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 How good is the "upgrade" from xp ? Does it just check your XP is ok then basically delete it install windows 7 or does it try other stuff which I am never keen on?
CHR1S Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Odd, I got this page as soon as i paid Thats totaly different from mine altho I did buy the 64bit version Edited October 22, 2009 by CHR1S added ss
ChrisH Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 no idea, i just did a clean install Are you saying the upgrade version purchased through this offer allowed you to do that?
jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Are you saying the upgrade version purchased through this offer allowed you to do that? Yup . . (NO see edit) and . . . . It appears that M$ are not that stupid after all. After activating (or so i thought) i installed some software and needed to restart. When it restarts the activation window comes up again saying that the product key entered is the default product key for windows 7 and cant be activated. so looks like im back to square 1 and need to speak to M$ again edit: AND . . . the key that i originally received wont activate because "" The Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations"" Edited October 22, 2009 by jamin100

ZeroHour Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 CHR1S: Yeh thats fine to post its no worse then what you could do with XP cd's and its actually really useful to know as I would prefer one CD to select the edition then a cd per edition, cheers
rad Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I have paid this morning, received my confirmation but too have not received the download link. My order states the fact I have paid. I to have gone for 7 Pro 64bit.
jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) yeh mine was the 32 bit version. But it looks like the serial numbers only work if your upgrading. I wanted to do a clean install. Trying a few things now. The product.ini is nothing new unfortunatly. Just done some googleing and these serials are the ones that the install uses if you do not supply a product key. These cant be activated Edited October 22, 2009 by jamin100

Hightower Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Yeh the install worked fine, i just couldn't use the activation key so am limited to the 3 day thingy So, to clarify - does that mean if I pay for the 32-bit Pro online (£30) I won't be able to activate it? I'm currently on XP Pro? I'm a bit lost - will it/won't it work?
jamin100 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I think you can only upgrade form vista (but i may be wrong) I've seen a suggestion that installing W7 without a key and then using the install media to perform an upgrade will trick w7 into thinking it was an upgrade an therefore work and activate with the upgrade serial. I'm trying that now
