Hot off the press, Synetrix and EMBC have confirmed that they are now in touch with appropriate technical people at 4oD who are aware of the issue and working on appropriate changes.

Thanks to all who have helped raise awareness with the 4oD team (especially Edu-IT) and we are waiting for them to do their magic.

I've just had this from the SWGfL:

We have discussed a number of solutions and the best one is to open port 1935 requests from your school LAN to the Internet.

So what will happen is that users browsing to 4OD and click the Play button, will generate an outgoing request from the computer, to the SWGfL Firewall, to 4OD.

4OD then should respond to the request stream traffic directly on port 1935.

There are no major security incidents, as all traffic from 1935 into your network will be based on users request.

The only concern is that port 1935 will be open from your network to the Internet

Let me know what you think.

If there is a fix going to be in place which does nt require a hole in our firewall should I wait?

Or is there no risk to us opening up port 1935 and we should just go for it...

Thanks.

Updated news this evening ... it appears that 4oD and Demand Five are now both working correctly on EMBC network. If anyone fancies doing some school based testing in the morning it would be appreciated (including letting me know what level filtering you are testing it on too).

It seems at least in derbyshire 4od has slipped backed to adverts only. Tested yesterday after a layer three upgrade.

4oD is doing adverts only (doing "An error occurred..." once that's done, same as robk is seeing. Difficult to define filtering level we're on (have it to block profanity, pornography and criminal skills and I think that's about it as we have in house filtering).

Encountered this briefly on a customer site last week; as a matter of interest please check to see whether the BBC News links work or report the same unable to play this content message. (Specifically news, NOT iplayer).

Not working at 1551 today. Works for adverts and sponsorships, then brings error when going to programme content. In Firefox just before this it shows loading data from webstats.channel4.com, then login.embc.uk.com.

Cheers

Working here on EMBC and SW- in fact the adverts are blocked and the programmes are playing which is a complete reversal of what was happening before.

Ok folks ... I have some news.

The problem is down to 4oD coming from two main stream providers ... one which doesn't like the way many RBCs are set up and one which accepts a more relaxed attitude. There is a work around for blocked links until this is sorted.

It appears that if you come across a blocked stream then by adding "?cdm=ak" (without the quotes) will force it onto a workable stream. I know it is a bit Heath-Robinson but we are getting there with sorting this. Let me know how you all get on with it.

We have same issue in Herefordshire - not a member of a grid, but use the Local Authority network to connect. We use Websence filtering, but it is straight out after that I believe, so can't think what 4OD requires to work. Your ?cdm=ak ploy works a treat though....
