spc-rocket Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Did anybody have any printing problems after the august update? Toby Hiya, Our exams officer has some issues printing at the moment from exams organiser. Not sure what it but one of my guys here have passed it to our county support team. Ash.
glennda Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 i just seem to have got quite a few people that have tried to print timetables and it just bombs out, will wait to see what our support team say, was just thinking that if somebody else had problems! just me it seems! Toby
sted Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 not specific to this update but in teh past ive found it very picky with printers ones added via my standard vbs script dont work add the printer manually for all users and make it the default (so assuming its a network printer add printer/local printer/use this port\new port //server/printer feed it driver) ive also found older printer drivers seem to work better so ive got a brand new hp business inkjet as some old hp think that id be surprised if anyone still has a working one of
glennda Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 another thing that has happened, that you may not be aware of, is that nova, and lesson monitor are not getting the data out of .net properly, have just had the head teacher on the phone complaining hes getting emails from the admin staff saying he is on the missing registers list, but if you go into sims he has taken the register!!
Stuart_C Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 We have a problem with Exams organiser not accepting the new basedata. Apparently Capita have told us that our server may not have upgraded properly even though, according to all the splash screens it has and produced no errors when running the update. I've got to manually run everything again apparently... I'm not convinced but I'll do it and see what happens.
Michael Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Did anybody have any printing problems after the august update? What make/model of printer is it? And is it connected via USB or Ethernet? Have you looked for driver updates? Have you tried another different printer (if possible)?
glennda Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 What make/model of printer is it? And is it connected via USB or Ethernet? Have you looked for driver updates? Have you tried another different printer (if possible)? Yeah, i have it in three different offices, ones ethernet, two usb, the two usbs are the same printer, the ethernet is a different one. i havn't tried it on any other printers, its fine if you print from Nova t-4, but if you print from sims itself it bombs out Toby
spc-rocket Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 i just seem to have got quite a few people that have tried to print timetables and it just bombs out, will wait to see what our support team say, was just thinking that if somebody else had problems! just me it seems! Toby Hiya, Yeah we are getting this problem but with exams organiser. When the performance analysis is selected from the results menu and the user tries to print the whole exam organiser just crashes out and you're at the main sims page. We tried this as admin user (on the network) and also as a sims admin user its the same. Happening on all stations where sims is installed. Got to be a sims thing! Ash.
mb2k01 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 We have had some issues - again seems to be limited to Exams. We've had general historical issues with printing in Exams and NovaT - to sort them in the past we've had to install printers via USB (so if they would normally have had an IP printer they've had to have it connected on USB as well/instead!) For info if it helps / interests anyone - we've had issues with Konica Minolta and Lexmark C532 printers.
browolf Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 maybe not the same but our 2008 terminal server running sims has mysteriously stopped mapping printers properly after the summer and the last sims update. Some people have none or barely any of their local printers in their remote instance of sims. :-S
spc-rocket Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Hi Guys, We are having the printer issues when using exams organiser. Our county support team have emailed us a patch (looks like a capita patch). The patch number is 13583 which we are going to installed today to see if it cures the problem. Ash.
Sylv3r Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 We had a runtime error when running FMS, but this was on a newly built machine which didn't have any printers installed. Once a printer was mapped, FMS logged on fine. Obviously not August upgrade linked.
User3204 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 We had a runtime error when running FMS, but this was on a newly built machine which didn't have any printers installed. Once a printer was mapped, FMS logged on fine. That's a known "bug", and has been for nearly 10 years. If you have no printer, you can't use FMS.

Our county support team have emailed us a patch (looks like a capita patch). The patch number is 13583 which we are going to installed today to see if it cures the problem. Ash. Unfortunately the patch didn't work. So its back to the drawing board. Ash.
synaesthesia Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Having a similarly odd issue which I keep forgetting to speak to the SIMS folks about. In certain screens in FMS (i.e. screens where hitting "print" normally gives you options i.e. paper source, size etc as opposed to just going to the printer) getting an odd popup box asking to enter parameters. Just clicking "ok" prints it fine, but this is clearly an issue, especially if they do need to change something in the printing defaults. Anyone come across that?
synaesthesia Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Found an easy and rather too obvious cure to the above today. FMS being programmed in a language older than myself isn't a fan of network printers with share names over 8 characters, thanks to it's 16bit roots. Annoyed with myself I didn't think of it before. Thinking about firing off an email to someone responsible to ask why exactly schools are being fobbed off with software of this age and standard :/
