eejit Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Loads of people in London have Fronter (forced) but I don't know any school using it properly (I was going to say that "I didn't know anyone using it in anger" - plenty of them using it in anger though )

Two schools nearby look like moving away from their Serco supplied solution [it has never done a days work since being deployed as I understand it] and look like they will be moving to Fronter.

Just in case anyone didn't figure that was said with tongue in cheek etc Tongue in cheek it may be, but it may be worth noting that for commercial products the first port of call for most will probably be their support. Moodle support is community based, so I'm not surprised that there's more postings about it on here than any commercially supported product.

I moved my school to Moodle after experiencing how 'user friendly' the Serco solution is.

Skillspace is the worst LP I have ever seen. We are moving over to escimo, which is an LA provided Sharepoint based LP. completely free aswell. If the integration was better with Serco, I would be pushing for moodle aswell. Unfortunately it's just not robust enough.

Unfortunately it's just not robust enough. Despite the integration issues, Moodle is working well. I have implemented LDAP authentication to RM CC3's version of Active Directory. Courses and classes are managed manually, but classes can be established easily through 'groups' and 'groupings'. In addition there is an issue of how closely VLE courses need to match the timetable, especially when you want to group year 10 and 11 on the same course for GCSE and yet the MIS would not even have that relationship. Establishing groups and groupings takes a little while, but not as long as using Serco's solution. In repeat of a training session I was able to get a History Teacher to do in 5 mins in Moodle what took him 45 in Serco's LP.
ind1ekid Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Your not gonna get people posting alot about Fronter because admins have very little control over it at all, it draws in our users from SIMS, looks awful and really does have a terrible feel about it! I don't know who designed it, but they should maybe go back to basics of ergonomic web dev and design!
