Just gave my mother a laptop and internet access...now I need to support her when she gets stuck. Whats the best (free if at all possible) solution so that I can do effectively a remote desktop session to show her how to do something when she gets stuck. She is on a wireless dongle (3G) and I have a broadband connection.

My mum's machine has a VNC server, started from an icon on the desktop rather than as a service, and one of the Dynamic DNS clients on her router so I don't need to get the IP address out of her over the phone.

A little odd but msn messenger has a remote desktop service? It works surprisingly well to.

Not too surprising - AFAIK it's effectively just a different interface for Terminal Services/Remote Desktop ;)

For those of you who need a professional remote support solution should try BeAnywhere Support Express. Remote control, file transfer, live chat, support statistics, etc.
