Ok, more an advanced heads up here to start the ball rolling (so I can ensure you get packs sent out / links to them on the website if anyone here was interested as soon as we have them sorted - going to be next week at the earliest probably) I will put the official JD and Person Spec on here as soon as its done.

Due to my current technician moving to a job where he follows the love of his life, mountain biking, I have a vacancy for an ICT Technician on my team.

The job will be 37 hrs a week full time all year round. You will be working with me and I am told I'm a nice guy, I have some exciting projects and plans ahead for the College and you will be apart of them.

We are very hands on being such a small rural college and thus its all hands to the pumps as it were. You will get the opportunity to be involved in all angles of the IT Systems from cabling, to servers, SAN to workstation building, Fibre Optics to telecoms, CCTV to Bell System (yes we do that!), classroom layout and refurbishment, to the inevitable cleaning keyboards and mice and moving CRTs around the place. So its a very mixed and widely ranging job.

We have around 220 workstations, 1 iMac, 50 Laptops (assigned to teachers), ~50 printers, ~40 data projectors, ~15 IWBs (mixed Promethean and Smart). All running XP Pro with a mixed back end of Server 2003, 2003 R2 and 2008 R2. I have plans to move over to Windows 7 and 2008 R2 within the next 12 months (hardware and software testing dependent). The successful applicant will look after all the Printers, the consumerables, and the maintance of them.

We use Serco as our MIS which I am responsible for, so if you know Serco thats a good assistance, but not a problem if you don't.

We've just completed a new 6th form and Media Studies section in the building which has a good amount of new technology in it.

I am looking for someone who ideally has a good start in IT who wants the chance to maybe take a bit more responsibility than they do at present, you will have to deputise for me in my absence, I am keen to ensure the successful applicant gets to sample all aspects of the job and doesn't feel just the technician and gets looked after.

I would like someone who has some apple skills (more than just end user preferably) as we are looking at becoming the areas College for the Creative and Media Diploma starting Sept 2010 or 2011 when we may well purchase more apple hardware, but I do need someone who can drive a PC and Server until such time, so I am flexible on that one.

We have a lovely Sun S7000 SAN and a lovely Smoothwall UTM appliance so have some great kit to work with (that has excellent backing from suppliers on here) so some nice opportunities ahead I would hope people would agree.

Anyone who is interested or wants an informal chat please drop me a message.

I will post up the full formal JD and Person Spec as soon as its written (late this week or early next week)

Hi there,

I just wanted to pop on and thank you for sharing this vacancy. It's something that I'd be extremely interested in so I look forward to seeing the full JD. :)

Cheers,

Marc

Its a never ending battle tbh people don't like moving from desks, and then you get the i must have one each syndrome etc. Its OTT, I'd make them walk to an IT Room or a big Laser in each area and save money but it won't work and there is still crying out for more and more and more and more and more of them :(

I've lived in a couple of places around there. Might, or at least it ought to, have something to do with the convenient for running around the Dales, nipping over to the Lakes etc. location?

Yup its a lovely place, within 20 minutes you can be in Cumbria or Lancashire (your choice of which) as well as in lovely Yorkshire. We are on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park as well which is lovely. :)
