Little-Miss Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 ARGH!!! why do none of my computers no longer connect to my domain!?!?! These are my freshly imaged ones that worked a couple of weeks ago. I came in to find my servers off which was interesting. I know we had some electriciains in so i dunno if it was something to do with them. Anyway, my servers came back fine, but nothing will connect to my domain. The cabs seem happy enough. I checked because i also had some more Network sockets put in a suite next door. Any tips on things to check...im in a flap so brain has gone blank!! HELP!!!!

SYNACK Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 First things to check are (after logging on locally to a workstation as admin): Can you ping the server from the command prompt. What IP address does the client have, is it from your DHCP server or did it give up and make one up (169.x.x.x). On the server Are all of the services that are set to automatic started under services in computer managment. Is there anything funny going on in the servers even logs (errors/warnings) I would also check to make sure that all of the switches are on as if the servers were messed with maybe the switches were too. and most importantly Don't Pannic (Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy refference) 1

Little-Miss Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Ok....explain this to me... Ive have been scratching my head for the last 45 minutes over this. I PM you, i follow what you say. First of all client wont ping DC. I forget IP in my flap so i do a IPCONFIG on DC. Come back to client only to find it now knows exactly what i was after, can suddenly talk to the servers and the Network connection is no longer limited. What the frick happened there?! All i did was ipconfig! Any ideas....thanks anyway!!

robk Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 If the power has been off, it may be a switch thats hung, I would check for activity lights on the switches, and if easy to to, restart the switch just in case. Does your server have a intel network card? If it does, and you can`t ping it from anywhere, try rebooting the server, some of intel`s drivers have a bug. RobK 1

It's probably a symptom of your servers not being about to talk to each other. Unless they don't go away it's probably not a problem. 1

witch Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I think the servers were just disconnected rather than switched off properly and everything else just went t***s up! This happened to me a while ago and I basically switched EVERYTHING off, including the switches, and then slowly put everything back on. Then I went and had a cup of tea and when I got back, all was well (thank Goddess) 1
pete Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 We've got the electricians doing the 5-year test at the moment, but they've been warned away from the server room. However, they've unplugged (and not plugged back in ) everything that's not behing a locked door / network cab. So the "is it plugged in?" response will be used more often than normal this September.
apeo Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Never did understand why they know to unplug something but plugging it back in seems to be beyond them. PPL should leave things as they found them, unless its faulty or otherwise a health hazard.

Little-Miss Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) it did it again, but im pretty sure its not servers that have the problem.....i tried to print and it wouldnt let me...a couple of my images timed out, then my remote desktop ground to a halt. went ti servers, they were happy....so i 'rebooted' *ahem* the cab and everything came back ...is there something wrong with my switches? ninjabeaver Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Have you had any PC moves / staff in with laptops who could of possibly looped a network cable back into another socket. This would cause similar issues.
