Hi,

I have abit of a problem. I have attached our school crest. This is the best version the school has we cannot find for love nor money a better quality one. I am trying to polish it up in Photoshop to make it look better on a joomla site.

Can anyone help or give suggestions please?

Thanks

Oof, I do not envy you one bit here. I was in a similar situation in my last school, though our 'best version' was a PNG that was slightly clearer than that. We needed a vector version. I tried a few vectorising programs (including Illustrator) and the results were pretty dire each time. Also tried redrawing it myself and found it very hard going.

Eventually the head's PA found a professional who redrew it for us for a surprisingly modest fee - I was expecting a few hundred, I think it came to under £150. If that's an option for you I can try and find out who we used?

I like a challenge.

I take it you have i printed copy? Headed paper etc? If so could you do me a favor and take photo of it? Will help to have a higher res image to work with.

Thanks,

We dont the headed paper doesn't have the logo on.

Ihave attached a bigger one if that helps.

I would convert it to a vector and then redraw the lines so they are nice curves and such then recolor the logo.

Also Inkscape (OpenSource) does a fairly good job at converting images to vectors.

Paste the bitmap (your highest resolution one, obviosuly) into Inkscape, redraw vectors in a new layer over the top of it.

I was almost struck by this when I started here in Feb. Turns out for the last several years they'd be using a copy of the logo that was in a word document. Hunting for an alternative turned up nothing, until I asked the printers that we used who still had the original EPS file!

I almosted resorted to using elance.com to get us a cheap designer/graphic artist to redraw it for us. Having used the site in the past to get things done you can get some really good work at some very very competitive prices. A fair number of European, Asian and American freelancers and design firms on there :)

Could I ask how you got a .ac.uk domain? Are you a VI form college?

Apparently it was very hard, but the thing that did it was that the School offers adult learning classes. The website is due to be changed soon watch that space!

I wish i had such skill. I am not very good at all at this type of thing.

I tried to make the look asif snow had settled on the school logo at Christmas for a Christmas logo. It looked horrific!

i had to do this with one of our logos. I used flash to redraw the lines since it is somewhat easier to create the lines in Flash for me anyway. Worth a look in case of a "next time". Good work though sysman.

Not sure about the helmet overhang, might remove it becasue it covers one of the keys.

Thoughts?

I think its fantastic and its not even my logo. :D
