Will be interesting to see what he gets away with as when he was driving before the amount of rules he broke when driving etc were vast. But as he drove for Ferrari he got away with it......

Less than an hour ago I read than Bernie Ecclestone had put the kibosh on this idea. The item quoted him as saying that this would/could not happen. And I thought that was that.

 

Searching the web now yields some pages which when clicked are no longer available. However one or two are still carrying the old story:

Michael Schumacher will not stand in for the injured Ferrari Formula One driver Felipe Massa, according to the former world champion's manager, Willi Weber.

 

The next race is in Spain on 23 August, but Massa could be out for much, if not all, of the rest of the season. Although Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm had claimed that "in these circumstances he would want to consider it and not categorically say no," Weber said there was no prospect of the 40-year-old racing again.

 

"Michael will not sit in a car in Valencia," Weber told Germany's SID news agency. "This is out of the question.

 

"What would we expect from Schumacher if he stepped into a Formula One car? To win. The expectations from both sides would be too high."

 

He added that the German could possibly test cars in the future but that would as far as he would go:

 

"For anything else it is a clear 'No'."

 

Kehm added that her impression was also that Schumacher, who retired after his last race with Ferrari in 2006, had no desire to get back behind the wheel.

 

"He always felt relief at not being part of it any more," she said. "I never felt a temptation on his side [to return]."

 

Schumacher, Formula One's most successful driver with 91 wins, is still a consultant to the Italian team with whom he won five titles and remains in good physical condition, working out regularly. The German is however still recovering from a motorcycle accident in mid-February and his neck might not be up to the considerable stresses of a grand prix car...."

 

Amazing how quickly things can change: "Manager insists: 'this is out of the question'" etc.

this just shows the problem F1 has with no in season testing.

 

things falling off cars and no upcoming drivers to replace those that get injured by said pieces falling off cars! Although if he's still got the skills should make for a fun season.

renault currently banned for next race.(for sending alonso out of pits with unsafe car)

I hadn't realised he was SO OLD - surely he should be in V1 rather than F1

 

Errrrrr 40 is NOT old - [ although I do feel it sometimes ]

it will be a 3 way fight with Button involved as well I suspect as Ferrari won't be enjoying the potential for a Brawn comeback to the earlier form of the season I suspect and they will hope that this come back will do them some good.

I'd be interested to see who they could get at this notice. I suspect it'll be one of there test drivers Mark Gene or Luca Badoer neither of which have had sparkling F1 careers.

 

In a way I think it's better Schmacher doesn't come back, every one will have had very high expectations of him. Just remember Mansell's comeback at the start of the 95 season.
