I am staying away from Dell as i find their after sales support extremely poor. I am looking for something robust with limited cable exposure. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. A

BatchFile Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) well, the last set of PCs I bought were about a third of the price of those HPs What sort of thing do you need them to do? is it basic 11-16 ICT, in which case the above is total overkill and basically any industry standard entry level system for £200 or less will do, or do you need much more oomph for video editing, media work etc, in which case they'd be great? For bog standard stuff here I'm looking at these: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/32643-cheap-library-w-ss-atom-cpus.html ,but they may be a little short of firepower to do a general purpose ICT suite. K.C.Leblanc Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 We've got some DC7800s, very happy with them. However all the parts at propriatory, and they will be a pain to maintain once out of warranty. They mount to the back of a special monitor. We also have some Viglen Omnimo 3s. More expensive, but they use standard parts. Stone are an excellent company, will still use them for stardard form factor computers. EDIT: FIrst pic is the Viglens, second is the HP.

I may well be able to discount some pricing if you let me know a particular unit in which you are interested, or we can customise one to suit. 1

(physical space is an issue in our library) Are XP drivers easily available or does it have to be Vista? If you like you can PM me a quote for 10 and 20 of them (may be doing the maths rooms too) with the cheapest OS at the moment (we've got a M$ School agreement so anything we can "upgrade" from will do) 1

Sit snugly behind monitors aswell. The standard minitower chassis is 363(D) x 180(W) x 370(H) mm XP drivers - no problem at all. If price is a real issue we can supply Atom PCs in the same format - PM quote over shortly for the AMD... Thanks for the inquiry!! 1

I've been quoted £206 per unit for 30 HP dx2450 desktops (AMD Athlon 64 2.7GHz - 1GB DDR2 SDRAM - 160GB - DVD-ROM - Gigabit Ethernet -Windows Vista Home Basic) and £55 per 17" BenQ monitor but I'd be interested in any alternatives if you suppliers want to PM me. VISTA HOME BASIC ????

mrbios Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I can highly recommend novatech, we've done so much business with them in the past that they have even given us a free 42" TV for our TV system get some fantastic prices for them As for PCs i can highly recommend these: Computer Supplies and PC Components from Novatech There fantastic, a little bit more pricey than the regular PCs we buy but when you think about the long term they actually save alot of electricity (which makes things easier on the circuitry of the room as well if you have alot of things running) and they run fairly cool

I'd also say no to Dell in future. In fact we have said no, and have moved over to the HPs mentioned before. Dell after sales support (business) is just a shambles and an absolute nightmare to deal with. If we have a problem with a HP machine, we phone them up, describe the problem, and they'll send a man with a part out the next day, no fuss. If we have a problem with a Dell PC, you're on the phone for an hour while they get you to run endless diagnostics so they can tell you that yes, just like you told them in the first 60 seconds of the call, it was the power supply that caused the same blinking orange power LED that you've had on the other 20 machines whose power supplies died. We draw lots when phoning Dell. I'm so glad we're rid of them, I can't put it into words. Edited March 26, 2009 by TheElusiveOrangeButton

We're actualy costing them against RM ones at the moment and they're coming out about £250 cheaper. Child friendlyness wise they have pretty much the same anti temper features as the RM.
