dhicks Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I thought all the Heath Ledger stuff was hype after he died I'd probably count A Knights Tale amongst my all-time favourite films - silly kind of film really, but the cast do at least look as though they're having fun and the action sequences (consisting mainly of blokes on large horses smashing into each other) are something of a rarity these days in actually being filmed by, well, getting a bunch of blokes on large horses and smashing them into each other, nothing done by computer graphics. -- David Hicks

Practically every day I wake up and ask what became of Mathilda. Jean Reno has good command of the English language. His pronunciation of the name Mathilda is perfect diction. This action flick takes time to learn the main characters. The pacing is superb. Natalie Portman makes a surprise appearance. One of her purest (and best directed) roles. Next on the list is Heat. Has one of the most stunning get away scenes (if not the most compelling) in film. It was a total shocker. Was not expecting it, the duration nor the intensity. About 10-15 minutes into the scene, I could not believe how well it drew me in. The rare type of scene that sneaks up on ya and when you are least expecting it, grabs your coat lapels, gets up in your face and demands attention. Totally blew me away. ...One of the best movies to feature De Niro and Pacino together in film. Top notch support from Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore; also features Ashley Judd, lovely under pressure. One of the most powerful endings in an action film, you will ever see. http://cdn.livevideo.com/image/45/602945/1080972_pm.jpg Obviously there are others, but the list above is mainly A-list action, adrenaline redlined + some drama with good story line woven in the film that does not disappoint. All with good casting, directing and support roles by the best in the business. I especially liked Arnold Vosloo and Jennifer Connelly in Blood Diamond and Djimon Hounsou in Amistad. Every time I watch it I see something knew or work something else out. And it's just so... EPIC! Other than that Shaun of the Dead... and everything else with Simon Pegg, but mostly Shaun of the Dead. Must have seen that near 40 times and can almost quote the whole film.

ninjabeaver Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 If you want a comedy horror then Evil Dead 2, and then Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3). Then watch the first one to see the banned version. My all time favourite actor is Bruce Campbell. Waiting for 'My Name Is Bruce' where he sends himself up. Bubba Ho-Tep is another good one with him as a retired Elvis trying to destroy an evil Mummy who sucks the souls of the living (in a retirement home) through their backsides. Classic as well. Excalibur is very good as well. Merlin is exceptionally well played. Iron Man and also the Hulk (new one) where both brilliant and are leading on nicely to the formation of the Avengers (watch Iron Man past the credits). X-Men Origins should see another part added to the hints. I just watched Indy IV on DVD. I enjoyed it 100 times more than when I saw it in the Cinema. Batman - Dark Night is the dogs whatsits as well. Apocalypse Now - Brilliant but long. Perhaps re-watch some old classics like Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, 300, Sin City. 1

Some I would say worth a watch - Pulp Fiction Bad Boys 2 (Will Smith @ his best) Platoon Enemy at the Gates Happy Gilmore (a good laff) Sweeny Todd schindler's list (if you have the time to watch it lol) Street Kings was ok I could go on but I think you have enough to keep you going already.
mattx Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I watched Giù la testa last night for first time in about 10 years - had the extra 20 mins in - my review - [ I always review films for my database....sad - you bet ] Matt's Review: I decided to watch Sergio Leone's third greatest movie again for the first time in about 10 years. The 20 restored minutes, Leone's obsessive close-ups & Morricone's melodious music make this Mexican revolution film a classic in my eyes. Shame about the crap title - Giù la testa sounds much better.
