Print manager plus 6

Does any body use this latest version of print manager and if they do what do they think of it?

 

i'm just trailing it at the moment but already i can see that it could save us money.

also what prices do any of you estimate per black page printed and colour page printed :?:

Why can't they just make up 40 results? as far as i can see its only asking them to "Survey 40 people" no where does it say "print out 40..."

I didn't like Print Manager Plus when I had it, I use Papercut instead, which is pretty cheap.

We switched from pcounter to PMP and its far better.

 

We charge £1 per page as we do not recharge departments and it's easier to work out quota's.

 

Years 7 & 8 - - - - 4 pages per day

yr 9 - - - -- 8 Pages per day

yr 10 ------ 16 pages per day

yr 11 ------- 32 pages per day.

2. Create the questionnaire online and have it filled in online! Why have computers and not use them? Otherwise they might as well write questionnaires by hand and photocopy!

With PMP does it still take forever to load the user list?

Cant say that we have noticed any delays with any aspects of PMP. User list, printer lists, and group all load and refresh swiftly, even reports are generated speedily

 

We have it running on a P4 2.8, 2gig ram , windows server 2003, which is running as a dedicated print server

Ah right. Might have been the old 1Ghz Pentium with 512Mb RAM, Windows 2000 and old PMP that was the problem then lol.

I use PMP and it's great. We actually charge the kids for what they print - giving them £2 of credit at the start of the year (sufficient for 200 pages of mono laser printing!).

You could always charge the ICT department for the printing

PMP6 is great and saves a lot of time and money. I have it installed on 2000 Server and it detects all users/groups you have in AD, so you can specify credit levels on a per user or per group basis which is handy!

 

You can also schedule credit to be topped up or reset so users don't run out! My users credit gets reset on the first day of each month at 7am.

its a lot of paper - 40 per pupil approx 30 pupils per class with 3 classes

They don't need to print out 40 a simple table will do, respondees along the top, questions down the side. They have to do that for the next stage anyway.

Lol - yeah last count on PMP6 for number of pages printed from his printer - 467 - by him - ~200!!

Use PMP here too I think its great. Used PCcounter in my old place and had alot of counting errors and printing getting canceled fr no good reason. PMP seems to co-operate with alot more different printer drivers.

 

On another not currently we're run a system of 10 pages per week and no printing in colour unles you ask your teacher and they ask me to unpause the colour printer.

 

Do you think it will work with secondary level to charge higher prices for colour and mark it on the printers and give them say 40 credits a month mono costing 1 credit colour costing say 4 credits? Will they think about what printer they send they're print job to or am I better staying with the currnt system ?

 

My head of ICT said try it if you think it will work so you can guess what he thinks

Could you perhaps specify what you didn´t like about PMP? And which version were you using?

I am looking at PMP, PaperCut and Pcounter, and I´m trying to decide which one to buy ...

I have used PMP, but found that it was unreliable. This is on a thin client network, via Citrix. Got onto the manufacturer & they are aware of the problem, but never came back with a solution. This may have been sorted now, but I have moved on to pcounter. This isn't as nice, because all actions are on a per printer basis. With PMP you could have action on a per user basis, much nicer.

The staff moan about it, but I just say it's one of those things. They don't argue about it.

At least pcounter works over a Citrix environment.

Not tried Papercut myself.

I used PMP on Citrix for two years without a problem (that I am aware of at any rate).

 

I have since moved to PyKota which is a lot more flexible and open source so has saved a considerable amount of cash.
