I run three ICT clubs from reception to year six, I'm running out of ideas and looking for freeware or websites for that will interest the children, I don't mind what aspects of ICT it covers. Any help would be appreciated! 2
kmount Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Hi Katmax, Welcome to the forum :] I don't have a lot of great ideas unfortunately but I guess you've done the usual, Google Earth (or Flash Earth ...satellite and aerial imagery of the Earth in Flash), BBC Bytesize etc? We're looking at putting FreeCiv and some other games on for the students here to use in a club but we're a secondary. Sorry!"

Richard_Finnigan Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 If you can afford it you absolutely can't go wrong with a set of Wacom A6 Bamboo drawing tablets they can be bought for £35 each and when I bought darwing tablets off Wacom they were also willing to sell me a set of spare pens which is essential for schools. What's really good is that you get Art Rage 2 bundled with the tablet and the two together will provide lots of Art/ICT activities that you can do with the kids. BTW don't underestimate the power of Artrage it supports tracing, layers and PNG export with transparent backgrounds, also the stencils and colour sampling from imported pictures are excellent. If there is an award for user interface design then Art Rage 2 should get it.

enjay Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I missed this thread first time round - let me add Pivot Animator to the mix, a really fun drawing program which allows you to create animations with stick-man (or stick-dog, stick-giraffe, stick... etc). 1

(Pivot) Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, the "most recent" version was released in Sept 2004 (Pivot Stickfigure Animator Freeware download and review - create animated cartoons from SnapFiles). Is this the one you mean, or is there a newer one somewhere?

If you have a Nature Club you could try setting up a webcam in a Bird Box so that the children can view a nesting bird. A local Primary School near us has a badger set in the playing filed - they have a web cam set-up to monitor that. If you have one of those USB Microscopes they could maybe go Pond Dipping and look at creatures under the microscope. Nature Detectives - nature detectives is a good website - they have online activities, downloads and they often run special activities and competitions online etc I'm sure there are other subjects that you could introduce too such as History, Georgraphy etc 1
