Reaper Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Has anyone heard of or been on any good Server 2K8 training courses? I've seen a couple on Learning tree etc but have been put off by a lot of work on AD which I already know from 2K3. Ideally we're looking at something on updating 2K3 to 2K8. Thanks
kesomir Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 I have the MCITP Books for Windows server 2008 Enterprise Administrator + the MCTS Configuring windows vista client one. I'm not studying for the exams, but they make a handy bookshelf addition and I have no major complaints about the format or content. (exams 70-620/640/642/643/647). For you however, you just need the conversion set which is a different path and different exams - I would imagine that the MS books for that would suit you better.
PiqueABoo Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 There was for 2K -> 2k3 so there must be 2K3->2K8 upgrade paths for MCSA/Es that mostly concentrate on the new bits (and any bits they think folk are mostly rubbish at on 2K3). I'd look into something like that.
MNHughes Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 I'm thinking about MCSE 2003 should I wait and take MCSE 2008?
dalsoth Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 No, take the MCSE 2003 and then upgrade as necessary. If you work on 2008 stuff then fair enough do those new exams. If you work with 2003 i would do that. Server 2003 will be around for a long time to come and it would look better on your CV if you had both the 2003 and then the 2008 later. Remember folks you can also self study if you don't want or can't afford to pay for courses. Great forum for help with self study for all sorts of certs is certforums. Many members here also post there. Hope that was some help.
Kitkatninja Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 I'm thinking about MCSE 2003 should I wait and take MCSE 2008? Personally I would do the MCSE then do the upgrade exams. Windows 2003 will be around for at least another 5 years, plus unlike the new MCTS/MCITP credentials the MCSE will not retire. BTW, there is no MCSE 2008, there's the MCITP: SA and the MCITP: EA, unlike the MCSA/MCSE route the SA & the EA are aimed at 2 different job roles. -ken
SYNACK Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Another thing to consider is that the 2003 MCSE does not have an expirey date where as the new qualification does, 3-5 years I think for the newer one. I am not sure whether they offer a refresher course or if you have to do the whole next batch to stay certified.

superfletch Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Hi Everyone, Just a quick question: Are there any MCSE boot camps down (cornwall) this way? Cheers, Martin I expect Cornwall College (Camborne) do it - they do most of the MS exams. They'll probably run it over half term too.
thudson Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I've just done my MCITP Enterprise Admin with Firebrand Training, I can't speak highly enough of them. If you're looking to get certified quickly (13 days!) then they're perfect.
