OutToLunch Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 If it's eaten a tape completely (wrapped round rollers etc) it's usually a take it right to pieces job If it's just jammed a bit (we used to get the odd Video2000 tape rammed in) it's usually a case of holding the flap up with something and peering in while hitting eject to try and see if it's catching, then flailing about with a plastic ruler to try and help it on the way. Either way hit and miss 1

tmcd35 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 CRT I assume. I agree with Ben, unless you know what you are doing never open up the case of a CRT. Put basically some of the components hold quite a charge long after it was last unplugged. These things are lethal. 1

Pyroman Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 yeah unplug it and have a go with plyers, we had this problem eventually got the tape out after 30 minutes then (with 4 of us stood round) cut the plug off so we'd never use it again. Unfortunately it was still plugged in when we did it and knocked half the school electrics off oops:D

Do you use back up tapes? yep? One of those but 1,000,000 times bigger (physical size not storage capacity). You use it to store DVD's on.

My first film purchase after buying a Sony Betamax machine was Monthy Python's the Holy Grail. Bleeding brilliant but I think that back then in the early eighties it cost £70 which was an arm and a leg for me.

We were a VHS house, but my grandad swore by his Betamax, I think he only stopped using it when it was impossible to get more tapes for it. IIRC betamax was actually better than VHS...........

If it’s a small screen then you’re talking about 10kv to 15kv and around 25kv in the larger screens so it doesn’t do to go messing with it. One thing to consider with VHS players is that if it’s chewed a tape once then it will chew other tapes. Better dump it and buy a new unit while you still can.

Got a really underwhelming response from her this morning for doing it....shouldnt have bothered...not that i need praise or anything but she made such a fuss i thought she'd be pleased... She said "well i suppose i need to buy another...i just told her to try a tape she wouldnt mind loosing...probably she warn her it might happen again...
