I just phoned Kingston, as they don't particularly publicise their spec, and the Datatraveler, DT100, DT101, and DT150 models all have a hardware speed of 5Mb/s read, 1.5Mb/s write, which is far inferior to Aldi's PNY.

Odd. Kingston DataTraveler 100 - Computer Shopper The Kingston DataTraveler 100 isn’t a fast USB flash drive, to be sure, but it's still a good budget buy. The drive's 16.4MB per second average read speed and 7.3MB per second write speed are slower than recent drives we've tested, though not by a lot.

There are some benefits to a recession for you guys i guess!! So long as you can hang on to your jobs

vikpaw Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 point taken. like i said speed isn't a big issue for me, so long as it's USB 2. kingston do have a great little fact sheet that goes in to lots of detail from that page, which would be good to use in a classroom for IT / electronics / DT. . . . at the very end it mentions speed a bit, but no more than you'd already know: The USB 2.0 specification also includes the older USB 1.1 specification for backward-compatibility reasons USB Flash Drives and Digital Media Reader-writers require the following logos to indicate performance levels: USB logo: transfers data at a maximum of 12 megabits per second (12 Mb/s or 1.5 MB/s). It is also referred to as Original USB or USB 1.1, and is also compatible with USB 2.0 Full-Speed (with a maximum speed of 12 Mb/s or 1.5 MB/s). Hi-Speed USB logo: transfers data at a maximum of 480 megabits per second (480 Mb/s or 60 MB/s). It is also called USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. Hi-Speed USB is up to 40X faster than USB and fully backwardcompatible with USB through its USB 2.0 Full-Speed mode (with a maximum speed of 12 Mb/s or 1.5MB/s).
