I had issues with it not seeing S: drives (used full UNC paths instead) and once it was installed, it couldn't sort out the connect.ini file. But once I created it by hand, I've been able to log in and use it as I normally do. But then, I am a mere noob when it comes to SIMS usage. Getting our office staff to use it would be a better test.

KarlGoddard Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Wonder if he'll port Delphi 5 to Windows 7 or if he'll total rewrite FMS from scratch? I hope he does rewrite FMS from scratch... or at elast get it to a point where FMS installs the same way on 2 different PCs

I don't think we've looked at Win 7 yet - I think we'll wait until MS makes it completely compatible with its own tools before we try it out. Don't think there should be too much of a problem though other than yet another huge test matrix. Win 7 does look good though. What do you mean when you say FMS doesn't install the same twice??

As am I, did you get to do anything in it, like pull up the info for a staff/student? How was your install, mine wasn't very happy, stole the install from Vista and used that...

Only issue was that it couldn't find the S: drive, so had to put \\server\simsarea\sims in instead. And manually create the connect.ini file. I've pulled up pupil/staff info, the school diary etc... So basic functionality is working it seems.

DrCheese Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, colour me confused. Sims installs itself in the x86 program files, so it's not installing anything different. The only thing different during install is that it fails installing the 16bit stuff (Because 64bit doesn't support 16 bit apps) But I didn't think the main app touched that anyway.

Out of curiousity how'd you get around the errors which appeared, or did they not occur for you?
Gatt Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 There was reference earlier to it working fine in x64 Win7 Last time i Installed 7.112 on x86 Win7 this time its v7.114 on x64 Win7 so need to try it on x86 to see FMS has had probs since Vista came out - hence the FMSVistaFix001 app - which basiclly copies 3 dll files to the System32 dir - this also allows system manager to run in Vista/Win7 - so im guesssing the fix should work on x86 win7 if SIMS does..
